Sometimes, if im taking a corner at speed, the car feels lke the back end is sliding out, but with absolutely no tyre noise at all

Is it sliding?!? Or am i imagining it...?

Are you a bit closer to the front and so don't sense the front moving slightly as well - it's just that I get the same sensation at the start of a four wheel drift. Very little noise.

I had that on my 993tt; a 4 wheel alignment by someone who understood Porsche suspensions cured it.

If your butt feels its sliding it probably is... alignment needed as another fellow member mentioned.

Probably a good question to ask is 'what tyres are you running'....

My winter tyre setup is marvellously progressive and slides around beautifully, but due to the winter compound and deep tread there is little noise to indicate the fact. The Dunlop SSRs on my summer wheels however *do* make a noise when starting to slip.

Tyre compound and tread is everything in this query, methinks....

WIll check the tyres in the morning..

Got the wheels balanced etc a few months back, so don thtink it is that

Just an odd sensation where it feels like the back end is twitching, but in absolute silence. Kind of disconcerting!

Some types of tyre squeal as soon as they start to slide, and some only squeal when they are really hot, and some don't squeal at all. It depends on the construction of the tyre and tread. I had some Yokohamas that squealled like a stuck pig at the slightest provocation under any conditions, which was quite amusing but made it difficult to keep a low profile when pressing on. On the other hand the current Bridgestones are fairly quiet until they get hot.

Tyres is a possibility, some jsut aren't noisy when sliding. Not sure about Porsches specifically but in some cars when the bushes etc in the rear suspension get very worn the car can move around on the bushes quite a lot without the tyres slipping, giving a quite weird feel a bit like what you described.

I had that feeling but at the front, Porsche fixed it (under warranty) but still haven't told me what they did rolleyes

Something to do with the suspension though.
