I have been thinking about what to install in my car.
I like LuckP’s stereo and sat nav system, but it’s a 1 off arse…..

I’m not keen on the ones that have the screens that come out, like the stig’s

Has anyone else fitted an after market unit, the one in the rang rover is quite good but its too big.

Have you thought about a Car PC?

Is that what LuckyP's one off is?

I have the Pioneer AVIC 1 as in Stigs CanAm and am very pleased with it. I have managed to fit it in the centre of the dash and also have a rear view camera in lieu of a mirror and when the screen is out of the head unit, it follows the angle of the dash and looks right. Depends what you want but I like the fact that the whole unit can be removed for track days etc. and felt that having Sat Nav to be essential for when I go abroad and such. Not trying to convert you just extolling the virtues you understand.

I have managed to fit it in the centre of the dash.

How did you manage that?
Does it not foul on the air con unit?

The air con unit has been moved ever so slightly; Do you mean that you have yours there also (in which case you must have experienced similar) or have you mounted the unit under the dash in the middle?

Blimey - you did well to squeeze it in the middle. I thought it was tight even at the side! I guess you moved it back a bit, but as you know, you can't go far because of the wiper motor.

The unit is ace though. Vehicle dynamics display is fun to play with too

Wayne/Stig

Can you let me know where you got your Pioneer units from and what you paid. Interested in one myself but not for the Ultima.

Cheers

Watcha Guy, after trying the usual local shops I then trawled the net. In the end, just by chance, I spotted one on ebay at two thirds of the best price I had seen so far and it included a multi changer and remote control!. The cheapest I did see them for was about £1200 but the price seems to be going down all the time.

You need to make a new lower vent plate, so the back of the stereo fitts under the Evap pipes.....

Ah, not a problem for me as I moved the vents and controls of course

Guy - I bought mine on eBay for a grand. I already had a compatible changer for it.

Guy, for information I put the Alpine IVA-D310RB main unit and N099P Satnav in mine. Dunno what the Pioneer is like so can't compare - all I can say is I'm well impressed with it - especially the Satnav. I got it to fit in the end despite there bing multiple units (needed a few hats/rabbits and a few hours trial/error I can tell you !)

Next question

How easy are they to fit and what do they need to be linked into to work properly. Obvious standard wires in place but what else?

Thanks
