Bloody SORN

I forgot to send my SORN (statutary off road notice)for a long running project which has been off the road for 5yrs. SORN was due on 1st June. The car is in bits, in the garage and I just forgot to send the form, as I had done faithfully for previous 5 years. I have just got a bill for £29 for back road tax and a £40 fine. If I don't pay before the end of the month, fine becomes £80 and back tax will also rise - what a rip off.

Ring them up and apologies profusely and explain the situation I'm sure they'll sort it out.

It's meant to catch those 6*3t*rd5 who are uninsured and untaxed on the roads who need castrating (if possible), hung, drawn and quartered, and finally burnt at the stake... or at least sent down (which never happens).

That excuse won't work as the DVLA state that if you don't get an acknowledgement of SORN from the DVLA within 4 weeks then you must contact their helpline forthwith.
Another loophole sealed shut!
If it's been SORNed for the last 5 years you might be able to persuade them you're innocent if you show them a photo of the work in progress - but that does assume they're human.

I guess if he'd been black or muslim and you had described him as a slimey black rip off tosspot there would be much uproar to your comments. But as it's just all Scots you're insulting then that's fine

Nope, won't wash. I forgot to renew the SORN on the 'bike when the previous SORN expired. An honest mistake. It had been off the road for 2 years and despite much protestations to the grumpy jobsworth on the phone and couple of letters I had to pay up the fine in full.
