Yesterday I agreed to purchase items advertised on Ph classified agreed price and arranged for a friend to collect items. On arrival friend was told items sold and although I have rung and sent email I have had no response

why not name and shame him so other people will not get caught with the same thing??There are some muppets out there, just becasue they drive a TVR or post on PH doesn't mean there are perfect human beings.
By the same token I'm sure there is the other side of the story as to why the items were sold to someone else.
In short, get over it, life's too short to get hung up on crap like that...unless of course you've paid for the items, in which case it's a different matter, thats theft.

Do watch out - while it seems that what has occured is unfair, remember there is an "other side of the story". I'm not suggesting the original poster is wrong, but having had one of the most genuine PHers brought into question a while ago (and found to be unjustly criticised) this is dangerous ground to be treading on!
I recently had the same thing:
- Agreed a price
- Agreed to meet to exchange goods/money
- Arranged for him to call the following day to sort out a meeting place/time.
When I contacted him the day afterwards he said he'd sold the item to someone else for 10% more.
Once I'd agreed a deal, I'd have stuck to it. At the very least I would have hoped to have been offered the chance to match the price.
As it was, my car is now off the road as the brakes won't fit behind my old wheels

I totally agree that there are some cheeky gits out there and yes some of them do drive Tivs. At Lemons this year some bloke just rolls up and tells me that he has bought his ticket through the car club and he is going to camp with us. I wouldn't mind but he was so rude. Would it have been too difficult to call me in the months before, e-mail and ask politely.
We always make the journey down early to bag just enough space for our cars/tents and no more as that would be wrong. In the end said prat buggered off as it's difficult to have an arguement with the back of Steve_T's head.

Not when you have agreed deal and sent someone with "cash". At least have decency to reply to e mail with some form of explanation.The point of what we are is that we exchange views and information about all manner of things on Ph and in my opinion if you agree sale on anything then your word is your bond.

Actually I'm thinking of coming down next year Mrs T and as the people up here are all northerners and drink their beer warm I thought I might camp with you lot. Trust that'll be ok?

I thought about that with mine too, so offered to pay a deposit over paypal to show I was committed to go through with the purchase.
The answer I got was that if I said I would have them, that would be good enough.
It seems some people, whether PH'ers or not, have no scruples.
I'm surprised how many trusting decent people there are out there still.
At the tender age of 35, I've had 17 years of limited companies going bust on me, to then open up the next day under a different name. Unfortunately this has ground me down to the point where I don't trust anyone, sad I know, but it seems to work for me at the moment.
The story of you offering to leave a deposit, for the seller to then sell the goods to someone else, doesn't surprise me at all.
When I was eighteen, I left a deposit on my first car and went back as agreed the following Saturday, with the balance, to collect it. The seller said he'd sold it, give me my £50 deposit back and said goodbye.
I mentioned that I didn't think it was very fair & he replied "me not giving you your deposit back isn't fair, I think you've done quite well out of the deal"
He was a big bar steward & at the age of 18, there way no way I was going to take out of his head, so I slinked off, like the runt that I am
I had had along chat with seller regarding TVRs in general and travelling abroad etc . I think that if the guy had any doubts about my paying and collecting items then he should have said so.had I travelled personally to collect it would have been a three hour wasted trip as it was I had a local friend who offered to collect for me and went to cash machine to draw money. The guy cannot even be polite enough to answer my e mail !!
