Hi everyone

I hear this is where all the cool Porsche owners hang out..!!

Just collected my Porsche 997 Carrera S this morning and thought I'd say hello. Saw it on the Porsche website on Monday, testdrove yesterday and collected today.. Bloody good service..!! Ex-demo with 9k miles on the clock from OPC and a very nice spec:

- Arctic silver with blue full leather (yummy...)
- Carrera S wheels (the original, the best...)
- Manual box (but of course...)
- Sport Chrono Plus (Mr. Spock, engage the warp drive...)
- BOSE sound with 6 disc changer (shame the 'rude boys' at the lights...)
- Navigation module (wife's crap at map reading...)
- Cruise control (for those boring motorway slogs...)
- Tracker (you can run but you can't hide...)
- Multi function steering wheel (look mum, no hands...)
- Heated seats (keep my bum warm in the winter...)
- Electric sunroof (keep my head cool in the summer...)

Few other toys worth a mention: ParkAssist, rear wiper, telephone modul (never get used..), integrated rain sensors, etc

Also, car goes back in three weeks to get the sport exhaust fitted (I like my cars LOUD..!!).

Previously had one of the earliest 997 Carrera (non-S) Tiptronics but always knew I made the wrong choice. 3.6l engine with Tiptronic box is not a smart choice. Finally have a 'real Porsche'...!! Love it to bits already..

See ya on the roads..!!!

Not rude at all.

The one thing OPCs love more than anything is repeat customers. First time round it was all "We'll have to run a credit cheque on you ok?". This time it was all "Aah, welcome back, would you like a coffee sir..". The sales guys are paid commission on numbers of sales rather than total value so they love repeat guys.

Bought from the same guy and he cut me a very nice deal on my old 997 and we did a lot of sums on the finance (I'm a banker so negotiate hard on the numbers..). They might tell you that Porsche's finance is standard but this is tosh. This is where the negotiations can be had if you know your maths. I'd say overall with the trade in and the finance I saved about £5k which is not bad considering there is still a 6 month waiting list for a new one.

Oh, forgot to mention in my original email..!! Also got an invite to a Porsche Carrera Cup race event as a 'Porsche VIP Guest'. Free food, pit access, etc. I fecking love Porsche..!!

you missed out the word "utter"

from memory they start out about 8.5%-9.0%

only requires 5 minutes on the phone to Lombard to get 6.5-7% (as a private punter not a company)

Welcome JEB...must say what an excellent choice, 997C2S is just the best!! had mine for four months and just cannot believe how stonkingly brilliant it is in every dept. Just what have I been doing with my life all this time.

Interested to hear what you think of the PSE when fitted as I already think the 3.8 sounds fab, you just got to Rev it

Why do folk show their snobbery instead of saying it is not their preference? I could fill a page of post listing the benefits. For one thing, it hits 100 mph from standstill seamlessly. In city traffic it allows you to push it up a gear if that's where you think it should be. I've watched rally drivers jump inside a tiptronic Porche and leave everyone else in their dust because they knew how to use it to the maximum.

Standard practive for Adam B, LA. He can use all that cash he saved when buying manuals to fund his left hand hip replacement when he reaches 45.

I have a brand new 997c4s tip. First week it was with dealer sorting elecrical fault and I had a C4S manual loan car with 3,000 miles on the clock. All of my previous cars have been manual, but I have to tell you that I prefer the tip. It is more flexible and allows acceleration response more quickly when you might otherwise find yourself in a gear which would not offer the best take up. I also have an AMV8 on order, arriving November and will then decide which car to keep, so if anyone is interested in the C4S tip let me know. Before you say it, yes the AMV8 is manual!

I have to agree with both of you.. I was totally convinced by the manual C2S and then borrowed a tip for the weekend. After the first hour I was hooked. Consequently, I stumped up the extra cash and opted for the tip. Closest thing ever to a driveable playstation.

...Which is exactly what a lot of people on here don't want. but hey, if it pushes your buttons (as well as you pushing its steering-wheel mounted buttons), then go for it - free world and all that.

What the hell is a left hand hip? I've been working in orthopaedics for a while but I've never seen me one of those.......Back to the text books!

Sounds like you picked up a beautiful car! Artic silver with metropole Blue - that's my fave. You'll love the PSE - with a 3.8 - suits you sir
