There are about half a dozen of us Bisley shooters who drive TVRs - maybe because the boots are so good for holding rifles. It's also pretty handy that Racing Green is on Bisley's doorstep for the inevitable visits - I guess a few of us are "regulars" there!

So... how about those of us who know Bisley well arrange a day's shooting and driving for other TVR PHers?

We could spend half the day shooting, have some lunch and go for a play on the local roads (there are some GREAT twisties!)? We could also pop over to Racing Green to see their collection of Tivs and old Jags. Oh yeah, and we can all ogle each other's cars!

I haven't priced it up yet but suspect that, as well as the driving and lunch, we could probably do two varieties of clay shooting on the Commonwealth Games facility, some target rifle at 1000 yards distance (!) and possibly some black powder pistol (you'll love that!), all for perhaps £150ish.

Are you interested? Let me know and I'll try and fix it up. And, if you are, would a Friday work (the normal day for this sort of thing) or would you need to do it on a weekend?

For those who don't know, Bisley is not far from Woking and Guildford in Surrey.

No. What form of shooting does he do? I'm a target and match rifleman.

He is long range target rifle.. shoots for Hampshire IIRC. He mentions Bisley off and on in conversation.. you'd know if you met him.. he's 6ft10".

Thanks Vixpy. Have posted over there now. Must be possible to get a group of that size just from TVR owners for another time, surely?

In that case I'm surprised that I don't. Hampshire shoot against us (London) in a qualifying heat every year so I ought to have noticed! Is he a bit older than my 35, or normally known by a nickname?

Or does he have black hair and an angular nose and a grin, in which case I think I've seen him more commonly doing Match Rifle (1000-1200 yards with scope sights, where target rifle is iron sights from 300-1000 yards)?

Yes indeed, that would be the chap my mistake for not knowing the difference between Match and Target, but yes he does do the 1200 yards stuff (the one where you have a wind coach!?) and that fits his description. He is in my Project team at the moment, pleased to have found him.

I don't know him well but he seems a nice bloke.

You can have wind coaches in target rifle too - in fact that's what I'll be doing in Canada!

I would be interested, but sounds like you guys are real serious shooters - I'm just an occasional clay pigeon shooter, and not sure whether I'd want to spend £150 - any chance of something more in the region of the £79 shoot they're talking about on the other thread?

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=7&f=141&t=287398&h=0

If you want this to be just for the more serious shooters then say so, and I'll leave you to it

No, far from it - it's for serious TVR people!

The thing on the other thread (which I hadn't seen before I started this one) is for clay shooting only, and I wouldn't knock it because it's great fun. This one will involve black powder pistol (when else can you shoot anything other than pistols these days? And last time I did it, I came last with 6 out of 120!) amd shooting target rifles at 1000 yards range. You will surprise yourself when you hit the target at that distance - it's a great thrill.

I'm not certain on the price; that's an estimate that I hope we'd be able to beat. You would be more than welcome, and you'll get to do some things that aren't available every day.

Will we be able to bring our own kit? I'm not a serious shooter at all, but I do have a 38/.357 Taurus 7 shot revolver. 12 barrel so a bit unweildy, but it might give folks a chance to fire something a bit like the handguns we used to be able to use; especially with mag rounds.

I can see no reason why not, assuming you can bring your FAC and subject to the organisers agreeing. I quite fancy a go with one myself! Presumably you need to bring the special chair that stops you getting blown back off the firing point under recoil?!
