Flashing passenger airbag light

Ok i may be missing something really obvious here and it could be a case of RTFM but here goes.
Turning the ignition on in my 2.0 GTV and the drivers and passengers airbag light come on (so far so good) but then the passenger airbag light starts to flash for a few seconds before going off.
I've checked the switch to turn the passenger airbag off and it's turned on.
Is it not mean't to just go off after a few seconds or is it me?

Mine does this exactly and I dont understand either

It's meant to do that. But, only if you have a particular type of airbag controller, some types do it and some don't.

Well at least it's not some problem as i never want to test the airbag system

As stated above, its perfectly normal.

I've always thought of it as a reminder that the pax system is ON - just in case you were about to drive off with a rear-facing baby seat mounted in the passenger seat...
