Hi there, do you know of anyone who has had sucess from fabricating a new petrol tank from fibre glass and fire retardant resins?? Looking at helping my partner design a small light weight tank for his car. It can be done, but want to hear of first hand stories.

Your help is much appreciated.

Don't know about in NZ, but fibreglass petrol tanks were made illegal some years ago in UK following a number of accidents in which they shattered with obvious results.

Better to stick to welded aluminium.

Whatever you'r ebuilding Kylie, I'd recomend POR 15 fuel tank treatment (especially good for restoring an old tank or protecting a new one) it lines the tank with an impenetrable polymer shield (get it on the bench and you'll need an angle grinder to get it off) and it'll stop rust and seal pinhole leaks with reasonable aplomb..... for that matter any POR15 product is AWESOME.... a little off topic i know but that's my 2 c
