Couple of problems on my new baby - Advice Please!

Morning Gents,
The honeymoon period is over! My car is booked into the factory a week today to sort out a couple of niggles - thought I'd share them with you to see if anyone can offer any advice before I make the trip to Barwell and shed pounds.
My 3R has got a strange and rather loud knock coming from the rear end which happens more when the car is warm. It's not a mechanical knock, it sounds very much like something vibrating / knocking against the body work. The suspension etc all feels tight and the car drives/tracks like it should - I've checked the exhaust mounts and all seems well there and the battery is tied down etc. I'm now stumped - any ideas?
Secondly - the air con worked perfectly until a trip out yesterday - the light comes on but the compressor is definitely not kicking in - the car was cold i.e no hot turbo to cause the system to shut down - obviously it could be a failure of a major component/ leak but I'm wondering if the fact that I took of the drivers side wheelarch cover yesterday to refix a loose side air intake grille could have dislodged something?
Again, is there something obvious that I should / could check?

The knock, sounds very similar to one I had.
Sounded a bit like clam scraping on clam. I tightened everything I could see and still the knock. Bit like a rebound knock when going over bumps.
It was the exhaust knocking on the chassis right up under the bulkhead, behind the drivers seat.
Factory fixed it in no time.

Air con needs to be serviced and re-pumped every year anyway so its no bad thing to get it looked at.
Mine has a very annoying squeel every time the compressor kicks in. So, you get about 10 seconds of scilence then 10 secs of squeel, then off and another 10 secs scilence, then squeel!
I would love to know hao to fix this but the whole system seems to be encased in a big silver rivited box in the middle rear of the front clam.
Can anyone help me?

I got my aircon regassed recently and it didn't cost the earth. Isn't the compressor run off a relay or it's own seperate fuse anyway - if so it might be worth checking it.

Sounds like the belt that's just behind your head in the rear. Are you sure the noise is coming from the front? There's only a heat exchanger in that box, and I can't see how that'll make any noise.
Noble Aircon's are rather prone to leaks, and the gas generally leaks away after a year or so. When the gas gets too low the compressor stops itself to ensure it doesn't lunch itself.
You can easily check by popping the front clam. Look near the nearside wheel and you'll see a 'pot' attached to the side with air con pipes going in and out of the top. On the top there is a sight glass that has a bit of sticky paper stuck over it.
Pull the paper off and if you can't see Green fluid then the system is too low (it should look a bit like a spirit level glass). Get the system leak tested before regassing it, the elbow joint at the rear just before the compressor sometimes leaks. Although the o-ring is about 30p it takes about 1-2 hours worth of labour to change it.
Remember to stick a bit of label back over the sight glass when you are done to protect it from crap from the wheels.
As for the nock, sounds like a clam wobbling around as has been said to me.

Agree with phil there mate, sounds like the AC clutch on the compressor going in and out. Try a squirt of WD, worked a treat on mine, have had no squeal since 
Where is that situated? (the clutch) I have sprayed wd40 onto a few thingys but feared getting it on the belts (i have silicone spray for them
) The pump I am guessing is the big silver circular thing behind the drivers seat that I spent the first few months of ownership thinking was a turbo!
Where on that is the clutch?
I would love to have it de-squeeked for the France trip at the weekend!

Air con was a dodgy spade connector and it was the exhaust knocking on the chassis due to two snapped brackets!
An hours labour, bit of a chinwag, two cups of tea later and my motor was as good as new all for the princely sum of £75 plus VAT. (phew!)
What really struck me was how friendly and down to earth everybody at the factory seemed to be, right down to Lee's kids running riot around the place!
I can't imagine you'd get this kind of service at Marinello....!
Am now really enjoying the car, it's fantastic and I haven't missed my old Griff once! (especially now my air con works again!)
