My speedo doesn't work. It used to (sporadically) until I had a new gearbox sender fitted when the car was rebuilt. So assuming that the sender is OK how can I test the speedo without removing it? I am pretty sure the sender is OK because the car runs well.

I'd be interested to know as well as the speedo on my V8S cuts out intermittently. Is there a test that does not involve removing the gearbox?or accessing some really awkward areas.

Steve.

i hate to say this but i had spedo problems and it was a total pain to sort out
the equipment needed to generate a signal similar to a gearbox sender is quite rare
the only thing you could do is get a working sender and spin it with a cordless drill (which is what i did)
this will confirm if it's the sender or the spedo
the spedo if knackered can be overhauled by richfield - cost £175 takes 6 weeks !
the senders are not available new and have to be rebuilt by speedy cables £60 ? - 4 weeks
taking the spedo out is a right fiddle
taking the sender out is worse
sorry
one possible is the earth on the back of the spedo - if you are really lucky
don't be tempted to buy a new sender for the rover sd1 - they look the same but are different output
have fun

Hi, thanks for the info reb. The new sender I had fitted may be a Rover one. The car runs OK so presumably that part of it's function is working.
I shall have to get onto Perry at The V8 Centre to see what they fitted.

i'm not sure the spedo sender has any other function
i think it's just a transducer feeding the spedo
i could be wrong but i don't think the engine management is sophisticated enough to use spedo input
these things run on old k jetronic
they aren't like fully integrated systems just all individual bits and pieces
some one correct me if i'm wrong
