Hello everyone. Having a bit of a problem with my 1984 3.2 Carrera. The other day, I started the car and it was idling for about a minute when I saw smoke coming out of the bonnet vents just below the windscreen. Then it started coming through the interior central vents. Obviously I turned off the car straight away.
Now, not long before this, the heater sort of packed in. I say sort of because although you can turn the dial between the seats and nothing happens, it's still producing a trickle of roasting hot air through the right hand vent closest to the door (nothing from the passenger side). Also, the fan control on the dash produces nothing.
Anyway, the smoke disappeared after a few minutes (no flames seen) and just left a bit of a stench. Can't see anything obvious that's burned out although clearly something's shorted or fried itself.
So, the questions are: has anyone had anything similar? What was it? How much did it cost to fix? Is an expensive re-wiring on the horizon?
Thank you in advance for any answers!

It may be the fresh air fan has burnt out.
The heater problem may be something simple such as misadjusted cable to the heater box on the right hand side or it could be seized slightly open, maybe then requiring a new box. On your heater control can you hear the motor operate when you turn the control knob on? if so it may just be one of the plastic ends on the crank rod broken, which can be replaced reasonable easily (disconnect the battery if working on this first).
