sporting fiat club versus TVR's

hi TVR owners.
i like your cars with their hairy V8's. always loved the sound, but its a fact, they are only good in a straight line. i know that many sporting fiats with their much smaller engines would cream you lot round a circuit. why not contact the chairman of SPORTING FIAT CLUB and ask for a race or two. are you chicken and feel you dont want to be embarrased? his name is MARTIN THOMAS and is always helpful. members are waiting for the challange!!

I don't know why I'm bothering to reply to this, but...

I presume you are referring to modified Fiats? In which case the claim is a bit pointless, as with enough money, time and effort, you could modify a Fiat Panda to beat a TVR around a circuit.

I owned a Coupe 20VT (nice car), which I believe is the fastest car Fiat have ever produced, and it wouldn't stand a chance against my Griff (or any other TVR) around a circuit.

Don't make the mistake of thinking TVR's don't handle, they do!

While TVR's might not handle as well as a 355 or an Elise there are very few cars that can(and Fiats are not regularly regarded as one of the ones that do either).


Std Fiat against std TVR from the same generation = TVR victory

Modified Fiat against Modified TVR (to the same value) = TVR victory

The only time a Fiat could win is against a very old(or unhealthy) TVR or with considderable modifications (IMHO).


You are picking a fight with the big dogs here and you are likely to get bitten!

So many variables it is hard to know where to start.

Put a crap driver in one and a good driver in the other and I suspect you will see the good driver win regardless of the make. Also going to depend massively on the circuit surely.

Anyhow, am sure BossCerb or Guillotine (amongst others) would be up for it if the Fiat boys (with something clearly to prove) are picking up the tab.

well what a joyful lot you are. you slag other peoples pride and joy off. all i asked if you lot were up to a race. with a similar power to weight or say give you lot more power to weight, it would be an interesting duel. but as usual, i got stupid replies. indeed, the gauntlet has been put down before, and a few TVR owners at one track would not take us on after we posted some times up. and yes, they were modified cars, but only a little.
yes TVR's have 6 cylinders as well, but to say fiats rust infront of you etc is so in the past. its like saying TVR's are so unreliable. or is that still true. friend of mine got rid of his griffith due to it being in the workshop more often then on the road. a 1998 model if i recall. is all this unreliability still around??
any mature adults out there to answer if they want to share a track day??

I am sure some of us can get our cars running long enough for a bit of fun. But to be honest your post was clearly antagonistic so what do you expect.

If you want to sort something out then by all means do and I am sure you will get some takers from this quarter but to come on and tell us to contact someone else seems a bit odd, a bit like egging on a fight and then taking a huge step back to see what happens.

For a start you can't time on track days .. that invalidates the organiser's (and your) insurance, you can on test days though but you need a race license for that, so rather narrows the field don't you think?

My best TVR is doing 11.9secs at Santa Pod .. what is your Fiat doing?

We could always wheel our twin turbo TVR race car out for a circuit event if you really wanted to be beaten ..

I really wish they wouldn't allow internet access in school IT lessons

dont believe me!call a ren or fiat dealer and it be two weeks before they can look at it!

Yes I feel sure some of your modified Fiats may well beat some bog standard TVR, but lets face it - and I will be blatantly honest here - when the TVR drivers go home they will be driving TVR'swith passers by looking and waving, and you lot will still be driving dodgy italian rollerskates whose retail value falls as the petrol tank empties and passers by look and point and laugh at you.

As I said to the chav in the chip shop who proudly told me his mate (why is it always their mates ) has spent £10k on rebuilding his golf engine and it will 'Cream' my TVR; "Yes my friend I'm sure it will, but it will still have a VW badge on it" - much to the delight of his other customers

Oh...and how many "sporting" fiats (does that mean good loosers?) hold lap records...only last weekend did Tim Hood's Sagaris V8 get the outright lap record of the Rockingham Sportscar circuit in a 1:08.326. By all means come and play with us in the Tuscan Challenge, we need something to keep the rookies entertained! Has anyone else got an image of a Fiat 500 flat out round the turn 4 banking at all of 65mph?

I was once the proud owner of a Panda 750L, it was red with a white stripe down the middle, a bit like a dodge Viper...unfortunately that's where the comparison ends, did have a very quiet engine though

In my many "days" of ownership, six if memory serves me right, I can't once remember myself telling a sports car owner and I'm counting Ford Capri owners in this, that I would either "Cream" them or call them "chicken".

Judging by your claims, Fiat's have obviously moved on a bit since my ownership, but if your expecting adult responses, surely your original post could have been a tad less childish ?

Seems you started it my friend. What would you expect when starting your post saying that. Plus - you said "Fact, they are only good in a straight line?" where did you get that "fact" from? The fact fairy?

Put a standard non-modified Fiat up against a standard non-modified TVR and you will not see where they went, put a modified Fiat up against a modified TVR and you won't see where they have been.

Please do not issue silly challenges it's not big and it's not clever.
