Track day booked

Only a small one (as the nun said to the vicar!) but 2 of us (spyders) doing this one... end of June. (28th off M4 J17)
Its a great track for me as its an airfield so when I fall off I only hit a bit of grass rather than a wall! Few mega cars get there, mainly lotus7 lookalikes, few evo nutter bastards ... no chavs allowed on so fairly safe. £110, 100 dba......

good event today! until my ultima went bang.... the gearbox selector broke off in the rear of the box! Had to drive back in forth gear only. still good fun had by all.....

Anyone know how to strip a g50 down?

Sorry to here your car broke Paul. I was waiting in the Elise when I saw you being towed back. I thought you had run out of fuel or something. "Brake Here!" means "Slow that over weight muscle car now! All others may proceed" Only joking. We all had a great day. Good luck with the selector problem.

Do you know what has broken?

If it is a selector fork then that is the same as I had.

I believe it is a full strip down to get at it as everything else has to come out of the box first. Requires quite a number of special tools.

Hi Steve, its the gear selector bar which goes in and out at the rear of the box (rear of the car end)- i can pull the shaft out so it must have broken off. Managed to push the shaft back in all the way to select 4th gear to get me home. Starting in forth was interesting but the chevy power worked a treat! Also......... I hear you have a fix to the oil drible from the rocker cover breathers? Some form of one way valve that stops the oil collecting around the rocker covers? What is it and where can I get some? Looks like I will have some time to tinker now whilst my gearbox is rebuilt!!

The valve is a 'PCV' valve which you can get from Real Steel or any other Chevy type place.

What it does is connect the large vacuum fitting at the base of the carb through the PCV valve and then to the rocker cover so that it pulls a vacuum on the crankcase. The valve can be fitted in place of one of the oil filler/breathers using the same design rubber bung as the filler uses.

I have the factory catch tank setup which pipes both breathers to the tank. Then 2 pipes come off the tank as vents. I have blocked one of the vents, fitted the valve to the other, and connected the valve to the carb. So, the carb pulls a vacuum on the tank which in turn is pulling on the rocker covers.

The result was instant on my engine. I had oil coming out all over the place until this.

thanks steve. Just to be sure, can I use the carb take off I had been using (untill recently) for the brake servos? I disconected this as the servos were "holding" the brakes for a short while. (I disconnected it, blanked it off and the problem went away. Brakes are just as good if not better now!!)

The vacuum takeoff from the carb would be the same size so yes.
