AM on the vergo of booking a trackday and really want to go to Donington, which is one of my favourite circuits (I've got a soft spot for it as it was the first track that I'd led a race at ). However, it's 98db driveby and if you fail that, it's 100db static.

Do you think I'll be OK with that or do I go for a 105db day at Snetterton instead?

Snetters looks good, at least you shouldn't get kicked off for noise reasons...

What day are you thinking of ?

Snett is next Wednesday (19th), Donny is Saturday 22nd. Both with Bookatrack who've been good in the past. Johnny5 is a nice bloke (can drive some too).

I like Snett, good power circuit (pulled 170mph in the GTR up Revitt's), but I want a more technical circuit to shake down the Can-Am.

What's Rockeringham like, it looks quite technical, perhaps more suited to a smaller car though, but at least it has a 105db limit...

To be honest, I found driving down a featureless runway at 180 pretty boring, so something with a bit of gradient or at least some trees/features - albeit distant ones! - would be nice...

Absolutely, that's why I'd prefer a technical circuit. Never raced at Rockingham so can't really comment. The infield is supposed to be OK (with big kerbs), but I just think of it as an oval!

EEK!
I have enought problems with small bumps in the road, let alone kerbs!!! Plus, I think I'd fall asleep if I was going around in circles!

Brands would be nice... if we could get the full circuit... mmmm...

We've had two Noble Owners Club track days at Rockingham...it's as good as anywhere, and I can't remember any big curbs

Not driven Rockingham but did go for the first ever race held there. They used a combination of the banking and in field which looked interesting. There is what looks like a hell of a lot of Armco on the infield. Stig it would be a good time to run your car before it gets even louder. I'm guessing it went tough SVA around 94?.

That's because you were missing the apex by 6 feet

Well, mine wa was 95db at 3500rpm static at the SVA Test (so that will be as accurate as you can get) and given that it was only done about 200 miles ago, I'll risk it.

Maybe I'll just pootle round in 6th at 1200rpm. Should still be enough to dust off any Nobles that may be there

Hi Stig,

I was black flagged at Donnington the other week at 101db with balanced silencers.

No way will i ever get under 98db.

Donnington do hold noisy days and I will be back.

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin - am I right in thinking you were in a Sport? If so, I believe they're quite a bit noisier, especially as the silencers become less efficient as the miles go on.

Yep, you are right, mine is a 96 Sport - the silencers have been repacked and there is a balance bar between them that is supposed to reduce the noise?

i hope yours is quieter as it is very dissapointing to arrive at a track day, do 6 laps and get black flagged for excessive noise.

good luck,
Martin.

Agreed! Am getting mine noise tested before the weekend to be sure. If it fails, well, it will be intersting doing a trackday in a Navara double-cab pickup!
