CDL Racing Move Up To British GT Ch'ship
Discussion
Some official confirmation at last of a story that dailysportscar has known about for some time. Bert Taylor, owner of Essex based CDL Racing, has confirmed that his team will enter the GTO class of the 2003 British GT Championship with a TVR Tuscan R.
The Tuscan R programme will run alongside the teams existing Tuscan Challenge attack. CDL have been an ever present entrant in the crowd pleasing one-make series.
The car involved in CDL’s GTO campaign is believed to be the race winning ex-Rollcentre Racing Tuscan R, a car which so very nearly won the 2002 championship in the hands of Martin Short and Simon Pullan.
The CDL entry marks yet another graduation from the Tuscan Challenge to the British GT championship, a relationship which has brought forward a legion of GT racing talent over the past few years. CDL’s lead driver Steve Guglielmi has won the Tuscan Challenge title for the last two seasons
The Tuscan R’s driver line up remains unannounced as yet with negotiations still ongoing. CDL do say however that they hope to field drivers that have driven for the team in the past. A quick glance at the teams website www.cdlracing.com will reveal that the CDL alumni list includes some very quick drivers indeed.
Bert Taylor is clearly looking forward to the challenge: ”The GT entry is the start of a new era for CDL. I have wanted to do this for the last two years. If it had not been for Peter Wheeler, CDL would not have been racing. Peter has been involved in our purchase of the Tuscan R and I would personally like to thank him and all at the factory.”
The reference to the last two years refers in part at least to the abortive project for CDL to campaign a TVR Cerbera Speed 12 in 2001. But for 2003, CDL’s well honed championship winning team, well versed with the ups and downs of running racing TVRs, promise to be very serious challengers for the GTO, and perhaps overall, British GT Championship.

I am a massive fan of CDL and I wish them well for the 2003 season. Lets hope Keith Tarts himself up a bit now that they've taken a step up the motorsport hierarchy!!!
As for a Driving Combo I suspect that Guglielmi will drive even if they haven't confirmed it. And the partner? Steve Hyde??? Drove Tuscans with them in 2000 and did well. Also proved that he's quite useful in an 'R in 2001.
Oh well. Food for thought!!

Could be a double bluff but.... in Sprint Steve made it very clear that he wouldn't be racing the Tuscan R for CDL, stating family and his new business as contributing factors to his not racing the R. Who ever races for the team good luck to Bert and Team in the GTO class, now if you can just leave the Tuscan Challenge for someone else to win that would be great
All at CDL are extremely pleased to have secured the TUSCAN R for the 2003 British GT Campaign.
We thank all our well wishers for your kind words and look forward to seeing you all trackside during the season.
Please do not hesitate to pop your head in the awning for a quick pic/coffee/chat.....
Darren - Not a chance, we'll be back for an attempt at the treble, look forward to seeing you there!

Well done Bert on your acquisition of our lil baby. Look forward to seeing you on the track, I'm sure you guys will do a good job. She's a bloody fast car and you should have no problem getting decent peddlers in there.
James, got it wrong again....David Mason, talented lad that he is, with a very nice dad, never got to drive the Cerbera, though he and Dad did burn the midnight oil with us on various occasions.
Martin Short
