I'm not really all that pleased tonight , I've realised the previous owner of my chariot has pulled a sneaky and fitted a 2L engine before sale.

You see , I've done some long-ish journeying in the last few days and my odo has recorded 360 statute miles to the full tank.

Now that can't be right. I wasn't spoiling the child (i.e. sparing the whip) , most of the journey time was , admittedly on motorways , but there was fondling of the speed limit

To my (so called) mind , these sort of figures shouldn't be reachable with 3.4L.
Am I alone, or does the ionosphere owe a dept to varioram??

I can get about 320 out of mine on pure motorway journeys, if I slowed down it'd be much better.

BTW the're selling that 102 octane BP stuff round the corner from me. Thought I'd give it a try until I saw the price.

£2.36 per litre.

I can get 33mpg on brisk motorway runs.

but on the ring it was 25.1 MPG

still good by anyones standards, although that 102 octane fuel is a bit rich for my blood.

Phew!

It's a funny situation when you get worried at how good your mpg is!
I was thinking I'm just not hard enough on this car ..

Glad to see you guys are getting similar miles.

Can you really spot the difference when using 97 ron? .. I don't have the luxury of that choice here.

I generally get about 20mpg, it's a 15-20 minute drive out the city before I get the chance to hoon it or cruise. This pretty much accounts for the low MPG.

I've never run it on anything other than 97, so I don't know if there's a difference.

Thought you could get Optimax (vpower) in Dublin?

ermm.... not really. I think it helps the MPG but that might also just be my imagination.

No
We do have shell v power , but it's only pretend 97 I thought?!! .. (ie 95 ' with chemicals to help clean your engine')

Ah, didn't realise that.

Have you tried an octane booster?

If Gary can't really notice a difference I'll have a try of 95.

The garage I get my Optimax from is also the cheapest garage in the area, which means it's the busiest. From what I've read recently the most important thing about petrol is that it's 'fresh'.

My old 996 was struggling to do 14mpg on the ring and my VXR monaro wont top 8 -

Do you have a hat on the back shelf and like driving on Sundays?

I can normally get aroun 20mpg - 25mpg out of my 997 C4S, which is always run on Optimax. On a long journey, 30mpg+ is easly achieveable, but there is too much temptation to exploit the engine at every opportunity, and hence I rarely get above 25mpg average.

Around 15mpg is typical when I'm having fun !!

my 996 3.6 is used three times per week to commute - a 50 mile each way trip consisting of 15 miles country roads and the rest on the A12 through Essex.

Dependant on how hard I cane it on the twisty bits I can generally get between 320-350 miles out of the the super stuff. My all time, really running the gauntlet soaking up the last drop from the tank record was 366 miles.

Surprisingly, I find the fuel consumption dips when I use the tesco 99 RON stuff in comparison to the 97 Esso juice.

Just incase you are worrying that my car doesnt get any stick, my worse tank consumption was about 170 miles.
