911 C4 Cab Purchase Help
Discussion
Hi - this is my first post. I am now ready to purchase my first Porshe
and have about £43,000 to spend. I want a cabriolet, but am getting frustrated with all the options available. Like any guy approaching middle age, going through a mid-life crisis, I want a Sports exhaust, upgraded wheels, maybe body kit etc, but I also want a genuine car. I am just wondering what you guys feel should be the most important thing that I should look out for ? Should I go for a 2000 model at about £30-£35k, or a 2003 for £40-£43k. Looking at whats avaialble, some of the older cars have actually been better looked after and represent better value for money. I have seen a 2003/03 C4 cab 3.6 with sports wheels, side skirts, from a dealer with 1 year warranty, but nothing much else for just under £45, it is fairly good condition, but not amazing - is it too much ? I like it because it is the colour I want and has the leather I want.
I just want my first Porsche to be right !! Any comments or tips are really appreciated.

Hello
good luck with your search. There is a huge selection out there. There is no right or wrong car, just what is right for you.
I had a Seal grey Boxster for three years, and despite loving the colour I decided I would not have another Seal Grey Porsche - just because I thought I needed a change.
Needless to say, what was the colour of a perfect spec (in my opinion)996 I stumbled across? You guessed it Seal Grey.
From a personal perspective, I would suggest you try to look at the face lift car (2002) model year with the 3.6 engine. Other than overcoming the spec issue, the most important thing is history. If you could get a car will full main dealer history and an official Porsche warranty then you will certainly sleep better at night.
I was lucky enough to stumble across what I personally think was my perfect spec coupe, 996 facelift with bose sound, litronic lights, heated seats, 6 disk CD, 18' GT3 alloys and, saving the best til last, a Porsche Performance Sports exhaust system. To say it sounds fantastic is simply the understatement of the decade. Of all the extras/options I dont ever think I would have another Porsche without the sports exhaust.

I have a coupe the now, but in previous soft tops ( non porsche ) i have had I would recommend heated seats, that means you can use it top down all year ad long as it is dry.
It anoys me to see softies driving there cabs roof up on a bright winter morning, get a had and heated seats, no better way to clear a cold.

Ah, but putting the roof down below 5 degrees in a pre-facelift is a recipe for a new rear screen It anoys me to see softies driving there cabs roof up on a bright winter morning, get a had and heated seats, no better way to clear a cold.

I found that out on a old MX5 I had, you only make that mistake once.

agree with the roof-down sentiment
, but i have to tell you that at least one softie does that without the need for heated seats. if youre in a porsche youve got a bare minimum of 2.5L of engine (boxster), 3.0L (944) or 3.4-3.6L (911). if that doesnt keep you warm you should throw in the towel and get a MercWhy not go for something in between? For 33-38k you can get an early facelift cab fully loaded, FPSH, warranty and with bodykit privately, and at the top of that budget, from a dealer! You can always add an HID kit for a couple of hundred (Ebay, I got one, fantastic), and you can always get a sports exhaust from ebay at £300 (with great feedback).
Hi - thanks for all your posts and comments. I have found on a 996 C4 cab, manual, sports wheels & exhaust, side skirts, 24000 miles, psm, park assist, one years warranty on an 03 plate. No Bose
but great condition overall. Car is from a Dealer.
Would love to see what price some of you think it should be.
Thanks.
