993 Targa v Artic loaded with Porsches
Discussion
This morning on the M25 going Westwards from Junction 5 in heavy traffic, I found myself alongside an artic loaded with new Porsches - various models, including an interesting two-toned Cayman (I think black & white, but in heavy stop-start traffic I couldn't look too closely for fear of shunting the car ahead). However, the point of the post is the irony of being in a sportscar but unable to shake off a huge artic over a distance of some 20 miles on a motorway! It just goes to show how desperately overcrowded our motorways have become. My return journey this afternoon of some 120 miles of M3/M25 was typical - the first 40 miles in 30 minutes, the remainder took a further 3.5 hours. I really envied the bikers who just sailed past us - I wish I still had mine!
Phew, for a minute there I thought the thread was about a nasty accident between a 993 and a lorry!!!
Anyway, you could try removing the passenger door and both nearside wheels, and ride the 993 like a bike. You'll have to balance it a bit on an angle to filter through the traffic, but people will probably get out of your way.
I agree the roads in Kent utterly suck it down - when I was a teenager I lived in Somerset and there were some excellent empty, open roads (across the hills like the Blackdowns, Quantocks etc.) but now I'm stuck in the south east with my dream car and sodding nowhere to drive it properly (and before anyone says 'track days' my brakes are shagged
)

)I think (much) earlier the year we were discussing doing a track day together (discussing is of course a very generous description of a couple of tangential posts in a thread about something else entirely ...).
Have you done anything this year? 911&PW have a half day at Bedford later this month - might be worth seeing if there are spaces, though I think clubsport told me it was full.

Hi Tertius - nope, no trackdays yet. I'll have to do something about that one of these days, but my main concern is that I'm sure I'd be a mobile roadblock to just about everyone else! Before I do a trackday, I think I'll have to have a session with one those instructor-johnnies on something like an airfield - somewhere big enough to make mistakes without running into the armco or rolling over!
When I was a lot younger, I used to enjoy being a tearaway (I sometimes have flashbacks to situations where I did something bloody stupid and try to be more understanding when I see some young numpty taking unnecessary risks!). I still enjoy speed, but I don't think my driving has improved sufficiently over the years to be prepared to risk my P&J at speed on a circuit. Until I do that course (and I keep promising myself that I will), I'm resigned to the occasional blast on a decent, empty road such as those I found on a visit to Snowdonia earlier this year!
BTW, I like the idea Cyberface - I just don't think I have the skills (I remember those 007 films of driving on two wheels?!). But I might go and get myself a bike again - I had a series of Beemers. They were nothing special in comparison with the delectable machinery around these days, but they could still out-perform virtually any car - more like flying than motoring!

I actually thought it was cyberface I had the converstion with, but who cares
Re. the instruction I did a day with Don Palmer at Bruntingthorpe recently - top bloke, top day really recommend it, I did start a thread about it, search should find it.
And re. being a mobile chicane - thats just the way it is surely? I think you need to get out there and give it a go.

Woefully my brakes are still knackered, I know they need replacing but my limited means are being stretched by other priorities at the moment... I'm anticipating that I should get them sorted early next month and then yes, I'm definitely up for taking it on track.
It will be first time with the supercharged car!
