996GT3RS v 997TT.......RS Faster!
Discussion
Cant see how that point and squirt fat piece of Lard will be quicker than a 996 GT3 RS
surely the muppet driving the RS round bedford was cr*p!
I have never seen any turbo bar a lightened 600bhp car get near any of us
on a trackday
Does make me annoyed that these Journos can do this !

Is Bedford West Circuit full of long straights by any chance? Because I can't really see the 997 turbo being quicker than a GT3RS round a true circuit.
Long straights will play into it's hands with the power advantage, but it's just too heavy to challenge an RS through the twisties.

Even with the grunt, the corner speeds on the RS, even on its OEM tyres rather than R tyres should give a turbo a real run for its money on the straights - the extra torque isn't really that relevant on track.
This is the journo who found the Carrera GT scared him and he didn't ever feel he was pushing the car. Contrast that with Steve Rs appraisal of the C GT. Maybe they need to get Steve in to do the reviews
The other interesting point is that they he didn't really like the 997 TT.

Pugsey - Ive had a 996 Turbo 420 bhp and took the car round bedford
no comparison ( brakes oveheated - it was being on a barge ) - I have also driven a Ruf R-Turbo for 3 hours and 2 tanks of petrol ( that was one awsome rocket road car )
and have been on various trackdays in the RS against some monster ruf machines at the sachsenring and Hockenheim
I cant see how the turbo would be quicker !

From all the tests I have read on the CGT all of them said its very tricky on the limit and can snap very suddenly (they showed a fair bit of footage of this happening when the Stig was driving it on TG)
And the journalist was Richard Meaden who has done a few race series including the Porsche Cup series IIRC

They let any muppet guest drive in Porsche cup
Mark Hales put the car in the gravel trap when he had a go.What you guys are forgetting is the game has moved on! I know you Gt3 hardcore guys refuse to believe to that CD's are better than records or DVD is better than video, original is clearly best!
The fact is adaptive damping is the way forward for ultimate performance, you can argue against it from a pure driver feel perspective, but not on a pure performance basis.
The new 997 TT has a sport setting which no doubt offers far more track handling ability than the 996TT, add in the new porsche traction management & the extra grunt & I am sorry to say guys the lardy turbo has leapfrogged the 996 GT3/RS in terms of ultimate point to point ability, even on track, before we add track tyres into the equasion!
Doesn't mean it is a better driver car though, fastest isn't always best!!

Eh? The 996tt was already quicker pt to pt than a Gt3 and RS !
Adaptive damping may be the future but when a journalist descibes the car as lurching from understeer to oversteer and back to understeer again you have to question if the implimentation of the technology is yet at a stage where it is good enough, unless that is just the latest version of the 4x4 system?
They really didn't like it's behaviour on track did they!

If you are getting a 997TT I look forward to you showing up at a track day and proving your point

I can't be the only one sick to death of the TT V GT3 arguments on here..
Not all cars are the same, not all are designed for the same audience, just because you drive x, does not mean y is crap.
No one can deny the 997tt is very impressive, ok so it may not be for you for any number of reasons but doesnt make it a bad car.

Porkernut- no doubt the new GT3 /GT3 RS will be just as good
but as one of our flock said at Donnington yesterday
( now this person has raced chevrons in the past )
...it is good to have the benchmark of the 996 GT3/ RS as there
are no driver aids so you can see you driving Improving or not
depending on the input you put in the car on the day...
it is not down to the car but yourself
If you saw the smiles on the 6 GT3 RS owners yesterday after Donnington
priceless !

I don't think anyone is trying to claim the TT isn't a very impressive road car. There are however plenty of trolls making spurious claims about its track ability. I'm just waiting for some evidence

I'm not, Ive ordered a 997GT3, but I'm with RICH123, don't knock it just beacuse it doesn't float your boat.
The point I was making is however good the EVO driver may or not be, it is a like for like comparison, same mag, same track, don't forget the weather is also VERY hot, the Turbo will give an even better performance when cool air is sucked in!
Get ready for 997TT drivers of equal skill coming past you on track soon! You may be having more fun, but I bet they will be smiling as well as they romp past!

That would certainly make a change, normally they come up in the pits asking if I know any way they can sort out their brakes
Anyway who's been knocking the 997TT, its an exceptional car within it's chosen field.
