Revised Boxster 987
Discussion
Chaps,
Went to the OPC in Ferndown on Saturday and had a chat with the bloke about the tweaked Boxster. He said that the official brochures etc hadn't yet been received, but that the revised cars are July build onwards, so if any of you have got June/July build, I would advise you to make sure it's the new one.
Apparently there will be some changes to the colours as well. Seal Grey is being axed and Cobalt blue is being made a standard metallic colour, so £1000 saved there! Also, the Cayman wheels maybe becoming the standard ones for Boxsters. They are expecting the options prices to stay the same.
I know one thing....if I had bought a Cayman S in the last few months, especially one in Cobalt Blue, I would be pretty hacked off right now. I guess the Cayman will still have the stiffness going for it, but I can't imagine that the performance is going to be any different between the two cars, except maybe a few tenths of a second on laps of the 'Ring in the hands of a professional driver. And yet, the price of the Cayman is not changing and will still be £3500 odd more expensive that the Boxster. Madness.
Cheers,
J.

totally agree.if I'd bought a Cayman and paid all that premium vs the Boxster on the basis of the larger engine etc I'd be furious at this change in Boxster spec. This can't help Cayman residuals and,as Chris Harris said in Autocar last week,it makes it increasingly hard for the Cayman to justify the premium.I can't think of another manufacturer out there charging a premium for the coupe vs the identically specced convertible.I have nothing at all against the Cayman btw,far from it,only against Porsche's sharp marketing practices...

Adding a few bhp to the Boxster won't make it any less feminine.. Just proves that even Porsche admit to it being a bit 'girly' in the engine department...!!
Buy a revised Boxster but you'll still get the hairdresser jokes... Stick to the 997.

Not really bothered about the hairdresser jokes to be honest. Usually made by people that couldn't afford a new Golf, never mind a Porsche. Or equally by people who've never driven a Boxster. And besides, generally hair dressers can't afford them ;-)
My 986 'S' is a cracking little car, and wants for nothing but a bit more power. Well, Porsche have just delivered it. At 295bhp I reckon it'll be fantastic. Why on earth would I pay another £15,000 for a lightly specced, heavier 997 C2 with only an extra 30bhp??! Oh, and no soft top?!

You seem to be a real expert on Porsche even though you don't even have one..?!
Fund Manager? If you really save all your pennies one day you might be able to afford a Boxster.. Until then, if you want me to lend you a few quick let me know... just say please..

Yet again " I have more monet than you ", if you dont like the boxster then advice him to get a 996 cab for £40k, not a car £20k more than he was looking to spend.

Thats OK.
Sorry if I don't qualify by not owning a Porsche. It was just an idea I thought of in the pub with friends and wondered what you guys thought.
I currently drive a 1989 VW Clipper which I reckon on the market is worth about £750 to £1,000 (assuming sunny weather raises its retail value). Currently it has a cracked windscreen due to vandalism and is peppered with London parking scars.
Would dearly love a Boxster, but can't justify dropping the cash until annual bonus time. I don't really see how your car has to be a reflection of your wealth as I am on a comfortable six figure package.
Thanks for the offer of a loan though, but I don't like to spend it unless I have it (due to personal preferences and circumstances - in many cases finance is appropriate).
Why oh why have I bothered to answer this?

You do realise that it' people like you that the TonyLondons of this world target?
You come across as a bit sensitive, a tad insecure and very defensive......you've even told him your earnings for no reason at all. Just laugh at him and move on.

Oh please... Now you're just making me cry...
Six figure package (erm..) and drive a Clipper.. (what the f**k..?). If you truly are making net 5k+ a month and can't afford a Boxster then you truly are a muppet..
If you're desperate I'll sell you my F355 for £40k. Call it my 'charitable contribution' for this year...
