Just a word of warning to any contractors or self-employed people using or considering using Greenlight Insurance. I know many people have found them very cost effective and tolerant to modifications, so when the insurance came up on the Corrado two weeks ago I went with them, moving from Privilege who I have been with for about 6 years (and who incidentally didn''t seem to give a flying toss about this fact as they didn''t even ask why I wasn''t renewing my policy). I''m an I.T. contractor so I need "Social, Domestic & Pleasure and commuting to and from MORE THAN ONE place of work", which is basically normal cover plus ''class 1'' business use. I made this clear when I asked for the quote. I even used the phrase ''class 1 business use''. I had thought that the price that Greenlight quoted was for what I had asked them to quote for, so went ahead and gave my credit card number and the process of setting up the policy went ahead (cover note sent along with other documents in the post, fill them in, return them, etc.) Imagine my surprise a day or so ago, 10 days after the policy was set up, when I got a letter telling me that their insurers had finally agreed to class 1 business use (which they do not normally do, apparently) and that the ADDITIONAL PREMIUM would be £112. I''ve argued that the way I work is no different from a permanent employee who changes employers mid-way through a year, but the insurers will not agree and say if I want to be covered then I have to pay it, or else (as an act of good faith) they will give me a full refund so I can go elsewhere. So my warning is this: as with everything in life, make sure you know EXACTLY what you are getting before you hand over your money. I think to avoid hassle I may just have to pay it, but I''m really hacked off by this. If I was being uncharitable I''d say that Greenlight got my business under false pretences, but if I''m charitable I''d say that it was a misunderstanding and also my own fault for not reading the cover note more carefully to see exactly what was being offered. Anyway, just thought I''d post my experiences so that others can be on their guard. Regards Jon Incidentally, I insured the TVR with Cheam, who had no problems with class 1 business use.
