Porsche keys :(
Discussion
I love the latest Porsche key. With it's immobiliser, remote unlock, boot release, front release... all on one neat key - gorgeous, stylish, pratical.
BUT WHY OH WHY CAN'T PORSCHE USE PROPER BUTTONS - rather than this touch-sentitive thing? I mean I reckon I could make mine activate by blowing on it!
How many times I've nearly walked away after looking round to find that I've popped the boot open and unlocked the car! I now have a 'procedure' where I don't put the key in my pocket until I'm out of range.
Just thinking about it, this is "pants". We also have a new Yaris and the button on the blipper is a nice positive press - you know that you have pressed it.
From borrowing a Boxster, Cayenne and 997 they're all the same so I doubt they're going to change, but I can rant on an internet forum where no-one's listening!!!

Is this the 997 key fob under discussion ? I've got the 996 type and after just 2 years it looks so scruffy with the rubber covers over the three buttons unseated from their recesses that nonchalently slinging them onto a bar top in front of adoring girls is no longer an option !!!! I see that Carnewal do a more modern replacement key head that takes the gubbins from inside the original - but only for 2 button keys - another reason I shouldnt have brought the cabriolet then I guess !! (Apart that is, from this stonking weather, makes it all worthwhile!!)

I don't quite understand what you are on about - I have had several 996's and now have a 997 all my keys have required a firm press to activat anything??

At least once a week I find the boot cover open on my 987 boxster. A very bad bit of design. The OPC now warn all new customers about this at handover so I'm sure a redesign is not far off.
But if this is all we've got to complain about I guess things can't be too bad!!

Of course you're right. Not really a complaint - just an internet forum rant

At least you can open the boot without having to unlock the car, reach down and pull a lever....
To be honest I don't find it that much of an inconvenience. Had 3 buttons on the Boxster (oh marvel at the wonder of it all) but you can be a lot more forgiving of minor grips when you own an automotive legend.....a 911
(of course I be pissed if some pikey nicked my stuff because someone designed a girly key fob. I sure the 993 key fob comes with a water cooled lever operated switch (which doesn't leak oil) and has an agricultural look about it......

As an aside, I was told by the OPC Salesman to close the front boot by pushing down on the sides and not the Porsche badge!

Really? Mine told me to push down on the badge only!!
Oh no, internet confusion! Maybe we should have a poll to see how many dealers said what?
...or, I'll look in the book tonight and see what that says!

Although I have to admit, it did use to p155 me off too.
