Hi,

Anyone got any tips on the best way to remove the sump pan on a 5.7.

There is only around 15mm clearence from the chassis rail under the pan and there does not appear to be enough room to remove it.

I assume the engine has to be lifted unless anyone knows better?

Cheers,
Martin.

Hi Martin

You assume correctly! It's engine out as you need plenty of room to clear the oil pump and pick-up pipe.
I know one or two people who have modified the chassis member to make it removable.

According to the factory this chassis member must never be made removable. It is an extremely important stressed component of the chassis (I had a long talk with Ted about it at the Donington show a couple of years ago)

no need to take engine right out put a crane on front engine mounts and lift gently (undo mounts first) take off exhaust driveshafts ect ,have managed to get my sump of twice so it is possible .
