Unfortunately I missed out on the fun at VW yesterday as I was returning from a stag do 
I've heard all about it and am very excited that so many cars and such a variety of cars made it. It sounded a real spectacle.
The downside is that the success of the event does sound like it started to cause a few problems with traffic, extra interest from officialdom etc which is not such a good thing. Some non-PH behaviour from one or two attendees have also drawn a few comments.
Official Meeting
The success of these events presents opportunities and problems of course. On the positive side it means I've more confidence that organising a PH summer show is a good idea.
To that end I'm trying to find some venues to host such an event. I'm currently looking at somewhere near Birmingham as it would be good to make it a bit more accessible to those outside of the south east as well as giving people some decent roads to drive on instead of the clogged up ones around London. If anyone has any suggestions for venues, I'd be very interested to hear them. It would need to be somewhere with some facilities, space for a few hundred cars etc. If a suitable venue can be found then I'll get some sideshows along from manufacturers/dealers etc.

With regard to the unofficial meets, could you please give some thought to how you organise them, particularly where it involves convoys etc. I'm not going to issue any guidelines as these events are not PH events, so it's not for me to tell people how to behave or what to do.
What I would ask is that care is taken with mention of PistonHeads. I need to protect the PistonHeads brand and therefore need to control how and where it appears.
Please do not distribute any literature mentioning PH without my consent and PistonHeads/SPEED MATTERS or the logo should not appear on any T shirts or clothing of your own design. This is as much to do with trademark protection as any other concerns.

Anyway, that's the boring stuff out of the way. The PH community is thriving which opens up some new opportunities and scope for more PH organised events. Watch this space!

Bloody superb idea, Ted; we northern peasants could do with a more familiar, albeit weary, grim location, against which the aforementioned glitterati of motoring ultimism could illuminate like an imploding supernova in an all but blackened firmament.
The grounds of a suitably accomodating stately residence would be marvellous. I'm foaming at the concept already!

It's that sort of event that I'd like to mimic. Plenty of sunshine, interests outside of the car park, and decent facilities.
Where do other car clubs hold their events?
Gaydon's carpark is a massive venue, also plenty of room for some traders who want to come join the fun (I'm thinking of Leven Tech, some of the bodyshops, Mr Whippy and so forth). Plenty of space for cars and a nice indoor bit as well if it tips it down.
And if its at Gaydon, I'll volunteer to organise a drive around darkest Warwickshire (of which I've done twice already)

I would concur with the idea of Gaydon - It has everything you need plus a car theme. I went there for a (don't laugh) Volvo club event (it's my wifes work) which was actually a rather good day out. i thought then what a cracking venue for a TVRCC gathering it would be, but then if PH want to do it that's just as good. Seem to remember we paid about £5 to get in which was a concensionary rate, and given that you are prepared to pay £3.50 to get into a muddy car park is by comparison good value. There's the museum, grounds, decent surfaced car park, restuarent etc. I've got a contact there if you are interested? Cheers Rich...

Ted: Have you though about using a motorsport venue?
e.g.1 Santa Pod. One could enjoy a RWYB.
e.g.2 Rockingham. Big car park. Track.
Other possibility is doing a deal with NT property I suppose.
I really like the idea of 'the pod', gives us a chance to play and admire peoples car, best of both worlds.
