The fuel injection system of my VFR is like a switch when trying to ride slowly. Makes smooth progress round town etc very difficult. The wife qives me a fair bit of grieve as well.
Has anybody else had the same problem??

Thanks in advance.

not on that bike, but my triumph (was) similar.

check the cable, remove oil/grease as required.(tricky)
remove handlebar grip, and grease etc.
if no good, try looking at the wheel the cable attachs too, this may have got salt in it, try lubing that too, or remove and check the spring tention.

Thanks for the advice however the bike has been the same since new. The only thing that made a difference was to remove the free play on the throttle. That made a small amount of difference but not a lot.
I am afraid I am not a full time biker just used as a toy I had a Daytona 900 which does have carbs I known but was a doddle to ride in town. So you would think as technology moved on things would get better not worse.

My fireblade fuel-injection does exactly the same thing. The trick is to ride with bent arms so that movements to your body are not transfered to the throttle. It's a bit over-sensitive though, I grant you

My old CBR (2001 model) could be quite snatchy when cold, but it always settled down after a minute or two.

Have you had the dealer take a look, or tried another VFR to see if the problem is limited to your bike?

According to my local honda guy the early, i.e 2000 models with 1st generation FI, blades and VFR800s were snatchy but from the 2001 CBRs onwards Honda seemed to have sorted it and he hasn't had any complaints.

Thanks again for your quick response. The dealer says "there all like that sir" utter bollocks I know but what can you do. I have not had the opportunity to try another 2002 Vtec however I have tried a 2000 Blackbird which was fine. I will give the dealer another try when the sun comes out again.

May have to wait a long time for that to happen.

You could try a power commander or whatever its called that adjusts the ignition and fueling

give carbon can co a ring about this problem with VFR800 Vtec's, they need a power commander and O2 eliminators which cures the problem.

I bought a VFR800 VTEC in October last year. Haven't done much mileage yet due to being abroad and bad weather whenever I've been home, but yes, I suffer from the same problem. Bitch to ride in slow traffic - but a joy on open roads. Throttle just doesn't seem to be able to allow the bike to go 5 mph - it's like a switch - either off or too much. Also there seems too much free play in the grip before the throttle engages.
First service will be due when I can put some more miles on it, so I'm going to ask the dealer to try and sort it out. Never had the same problem with the Bandit.
By the way, the demonstrator was the same too, but I thought my new bike would be OK. It's not.
