Any Ideas?

Some rocks/large stones fell from the back of a truck this morning just in front of me. I was unable to avoid them and although none of them actually hit the car itself my rear offside tyre hit what felt like a large rock and immediately a noise appeared from underneath the car. It is a clunking noise that gets louder and faster with the cars speed. I can feel banging also. Needless to say the truck was long gone and both the wheel and the tyre are damaged, but it is this noise that concerns me. I wonder if any of you guys/girls have any idea as to what it could be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it sound as if it's a clonk per wheel rotation?

Yes it does. It's loud enough for bystanders to hear it.

Have a good look at driveshafts then. Also see if the plastic inner wheel arch covers have been pulled loose.

Thanks Phil, i will. Luckily the car was 50 feet away from a friends drive so i've left it there for now. Will look at later.

No problem. Lets hope that it's just the wheel arch covers. If it's driveshaft related.....no lets only go there when we have to eh?

Maybe a stone or pebble bouncing around on the front under-tray?

The wheel arch guard seems intact, i thought originally that it was something stuck in the undertray but it does seem to coincide with the rotation of the wheels. Have been out of the country for a while and have just got back and haven't been able to get a good look underneath. Being extremely mechanically challenged i'm unsure of what to look for.
