CAR giant TVR will today announce it is to stay in Blackpool.
TVR bosses were today meeting with union chiefs before revealing the news.
The Gazette understands a deal has been struck to keep TVR in the resort after it announced it was to close its Bristol Avenue factory within six months.
TVR laid off 71 workers in April with a further 260 jobs at risk.
Blackpool Council bosses held showdown talks with TVR to try to keep them in the resort – offering a number of alternative sites for a factory in Blackpool.
TVR said it wanted to be close to Blackpool International Airport and have good transport links.
It is understood TVR has now agreed a site and was due to tell workers this afternoon.

Blackpool is in no way, shape or form a resort!

This site never fails to amaze me. A few years? You really think it will take >36 months to move a site so that 2 cars a week can be built, or even 50 for that matter?
You'd think they'd move as quickly as possible (i.e by the end of the year), even it's just a temporary area while the rest of the site is prepared for larger scale/production.
TVR can do no right, no wonder Pistonheads is considered bad for them.

We may be surprised ,I work at the NewLook distribution centre in staffordshire, from flat ground to serving 550 stores in 14 months.
I would imagine a low volume car producer could beat that.

TVR aren't, so it won't. I'd just prefer to give them a chance, acknowledge the good news (2 million more invested and a new factory signed up for), read the good publicity and give them some time without picking holes in their plan or attempt to create more negative speculation.
This is all I could get from the FT article without paying any money....

TVR, the Blackpool-based sports car maker owned by Russian oligarch Nikolai Smolensky, will announce tomorrow that it is to set up a new factory at an undisclosed location in the UK, people close to the company told the Financial Times last night.
The announcement should end fears of its 1,000-strong workforce that Mr Smolensky intended to move production out of the country, possibly to central or eastern Europe, to save costs.

TVR, the Blackpool-based sports car maker owned by Russian oligarch Nikolai Smolensky, will announce tomorrow that it is to set up a new factory at an undisclosed location in the UK, people close to the company told the Financial Times last night.
The announcement should end fears of its 1,000-strong workforce that Mr Smolensky intended to move production out of the country, possibly to central or eastern Europe, to save costs.
According to the Blackpool Gazette article when this all started, they were offered 3 sites. One would be a new build on the estate near current site and 2 sites near the airport using existing buildings. I assume the 2 existing sites are in the large buildings just before you reach the airport. These buildings date back to WW2, they were used to build Wellington bombers.

Sounds very fitting to me. The article also said he wanted a site near the airport, so you could very well be right.
DJC mentioned the factory meeting was at 4pm so more news is likely to be on the way....
The current Arvin Meritor site on Squires Gate Lane leading up the the airport (East side) is up for grabs as Arvin Meritor are moving out in a few weeks. Those shacks are right old shitters though. They'll need a vaery serious facelift, or better still, flattening. It's a great site being right next to the airport though. All new developments down that way and will look very flash as you drive into Blackpool.
Let's hope they trash the bomber factory (I think Hawker Hunters were made there too in the 1950's) and make a nice new factory. Sweet.

It remained unclear last night whether Blackpool city council had succeeded in its bid to keep TVR within the areawhich has been its home for 40 year through the offer of an all new facility, or whether the comapny would relocate to another area.
It has held detailed discussions in several ragions including Wales.
Union leaders are expected to be told today of an ambitios expantion plan under which TVR would become what Jason Oxley ,marketing director,called "another aston martin" producing 5,000 cars a year-more than five times its current level.
Production has been reigned back sharply in the past few months,and 700 workers laid off,as sales have dwindled.
Executives have partly blamed revised european Union legislation cocerning engine emmissions with which TVR has yet to comply-it is unique among small specialist carmakers in designing and manufacturing its own engines-and which has confimed TVR sales to the UK since January.
However production has also been affected by an intensive programme to improve the quality of TVR's cars,which the comapny aknowledges have fallen well short of that needed to broaden their appeal to a wider audiance than TVR's loyal but small army of diehard enthusiasts."
