Just fitted a new cd/radio to the car which replaced the original tape deck. The radio reception was not brilliant before and now the new unit can just about lock onto one station. Is the ariel in the windscreen not that good ? Is there a solution for this, signal amp or fitting a new ariel ?

Thanks

The ariel in the windscreen is boosted by an amplifier, which I think is on the LHS of the passenger footwell. If you follow the ariel lead from the new headunit it will lead to the amplifier (although it could be a bit of a merry chase!)

I'm told that the most common problem isn't that this amplifier breaks, just that the power supply to it is broken (lead broken/fallen off.) Could be worth a bit of investigation.

The ariel is also powered from somewhere.

...not too much help I know, but at least it's a start.

Edited to say posted at the same time as above!

Thanks for that lead ! (no pun) I seem to be running a little "to do" list on the car. All minor things but thats the enjoyment of owning an older car !
Last week I dropped the front wheels, took out the pads and cleaned it all up, copper slip and re-asemble. Stoped ther sqweaking only to hear the back pads sqweak instead !
