After several years of trying to resist buying a 911 and resorting to natural alternatives (M3) or being plain stupid (Tuscan) I have finally decided to find out for myself what all the fuss is about. Since I travel in Europe a lot the option of LHD seemed ideal, especially since it saved me some ££££. A couple of you have already contacted me to find out what the pros and cons of purchasing LHD are.
I am hoping to be picking up a 2004 Carrera 2 next week, low mileage and with a warranty. I will keep you posted.
Meanwhile, any previous experience/tips would be very welcome.

OK, so it's definetely been more than two weeks and I am not going to bore you with the ins and outs of my Odyssey but in brief LHD Porsche changed ownership/management and finally the most beautiful -don't we all think that ;-) - 996 is now parked in my garage.
Having covered 3,000 kilometers in it already I can now vouch for my self that this has to be the most reliable, quick, stable car on earth -OK maybe I am exaggerating a little but the endorphines are still flowing freely in my blood stream-.
Most people mistake the car for new -except for the few who can tell a 996 from a 997 :-( - as it is an immaculate 2004 and has only covered 22,000 kilometers.
I will not mention what I paid for it as it may send some of you who have bought your 911s from official dealers into shock. The car had the 111 point inspection (Tony of Porsche Nottingham also to be thanked here) and a few bits and bobs a new -precautious- clutch and headlight unit later warranty was issued. Repairs and tracker fitted courtesy of Rick at LHD Porsche as was a lovely meal in Nottingham and next day delivery of my missing license plate -( won't mention the speed at which it flew away) at my holiday destination. 12 month Road Tax, European certificate of conformity and HPI were all safely waiting for me. I change my sports cars every 12 months so I have had dealings with several car dealers (including my uncle who was a BMW-Mercedes specialist). This has got to be the best car I ever bought and cooncidentally the quickest, most efficient transaction I have ever participated in. If you want to save money and receive immaculate service -frequent and clear communication comes as standard- then Rick at LHD Porsche is your man. The only problem for a guy like me is that I may have to go back for another 911 (S, Turbo, GT3?) in 12 months and that would be the end of trying to own as many different sports cars as possible.

Blimey, their a bit quiet tonight,
Well I've had a left hooker for a couple of years now, and prefer
getting in/out kerbside, slight nuiscance collecting parking tickets
(get one of those old folks reachy things)
Overtaking is little different you just hang back a tad further,
and the speed will carry you past in safety anyway.
Joining motorways etc is MUCH safer as you glance over your shoulder and don't get blindsided in the way you might using a mirror
