Aircon is a bit on the feeble side this year. I had it charged last year and it was fine, perfectly acceptable even on the hottest days. However, I would say it is not cooling much, if at all, now. Compressor clutch comes in and out when it is switched on and off, so that suggests there is pressure in the system, otherwise the low pressure swich would disable it. IIRC the shop that charged it couldn't find any data on the refrigerant refill quantity and made a guesstimate, which seemed to work ok. I wonder though that a) the efficiency is compromised if the exact amount of gas isn't used and b) there may have been a slight loss over the year.

Before I take it back, is there any more info that may be helpful?

Just had mine recharged a few weeks back, works beautifully.

iirc the chap muttered it's 860 whatever units. Only 460 came out of mine, but hadn't be recharged in at least 3 years, maybe longer.

I got one of those DIY cans from Halfords, have to say it worked well and was a simple job, 2 cans available, 1 with gauge, 1 without, I used the one with the gauge that lets you know when its properly charged. only used about half a can, rest can be kept for next time. Just check that the refrigerant gas is type R134a, marked on your compressor.

You probably need to change the resistor next to the air con radiator under the passenger wheel arch/bumper. The Fan should run continuously in low speed mode when the Air con is engaged.

I replaced the resistor last year but I admit I hadn't checked the fan operation this time. That will be tomorrows job. Ta.

And 140 grams (plus or minus 20) of compressor oil.
