Oil for M Roadster
Discussion
I've just been charged £106 for 6 litres of oild by a BMW dealer during a service.
Invoice says Castrol RS, Service Dept say Castrol TWS - I can find the former at around £27 for 4 litres and can find no oil by Castrol called TWS
Anyone had a similar experience or able to shed any light on whta this TWS oil is?
Many thanks

Hi, just had quick look on the web, apparently TWS is the replacement for RS. (search for "bmw" in this doc www.zfdoc.com/faq.htm)
That sounds like a horrific price tho'...I thought £50+vat for 5.5 litres of Mobil 1 was bad enough..will supply BMW my own oil next time..

Thanks for that
Spoke to Castrol
BMW only recommend the TWS motorsport oil - which is not available to retail purchasers
The helpful people at Castrol sales confirmed that they sell it to BMW at £21.64 for 4ltrs and £5.61 for 1ltr so BMW garages are making approx 200% profit on the oil.
That is simply unacceptable.
I shall be taking up the matter with this dealership and hope i need not take it any further.
Other discrepancies included a supposed "internal invoicing" for work done under the warranty, with no external confirmation of the cost or indeed that the work was ever done - having every significant receipt for the car in the past I have insisted upon a copy but the reluctance to give this was simply staggering.
Is this the way a dealership for a major manufaturer should behave?

Which means that if you want to change the oil yourself betwen services then it has to go back to the dealer. Nice racket if you can get into it, wonder if the oil manfacturer gets a kick back?
I havent any experience with a new BMW and the servicing they require but then when I need work on my 325i I take it to the local BMW dealer where my mate works
