wWORRIED IVE COOKED MY T350
Discussion
Hi hope some of you out there can help. My t350 is a victim of the da Vinci Code. While waiting for a space at he local cimema (going to see said film) the water temp began rising to approx 130-105 drgree C. Then all of a sudden a billow of steam poured out of the bonnett.
What do you think? Have I killed/cooked it? What should I do??

If you mean 100-105 Deg C suspect no. The steam would be the pressure cap lifting.
If 130 Deg C comes into the equation, you may have got away with no damage but you stand a good chance of doing a head gasket.
If its the former, you need to see why the fans allowed it to get that high in traffic - its not normal.
If it's the latter and you've done a gasket, please don't go posting about unreliable S6 engines..take a look in the mirror first.

OUCH- don't think he did blame the engine Daftlad. "Have I killed it" was the question.Lets help the bloke

Thanks for all the post guys. has helped put my mind at ease. Had proble a year ago with fans not kicking in due to fawlty sensor. Guess its reaccured. What now tho?
Dont know who does your regular servicing, but Austec Racing are one of the best indies with the MBE ecu's, probably book her in for a quick checkup and maybe get the sensors checked out - while you're there, a remap with probably a change on the ecu temp fan cut-in should be on the books - if needed. Also if you're in the mood to spend a little extra dosh, they do an oil mod pretty quick, which brings more lubrication into the top-end.
Is it killed? Naaa. Dont worry, if theres no blue smoke coming out your rear, your gasket should be fine, gaskets tend to blow on pressure+heat, just heat will just normally cook your engine up (to a certain point, they can still rupture, but you'd have to be easily around the 160c+ on idle for this to happen on the stock composites I believe) - to a certain point you should be ok, as long as the oil didnt go beyond its usable point (when oil cooks beyond a certain point then its a useless barrier between metals rubbing, but again, if you were just idling, should be fine).

Thanks for that m8. Tell ya what tho before she blew there was an awful smell a bit like piss
if this happens again, and you are out in the car, you can turn the fans on manually.
You will need to remove the airfilter box, and under ther box there is the first switch for the fans. There are two on the Speed Six, one for the fan relay and one for the ECU.
Under here is the ECU one. If you disconnect the switch (WIRE CONNECTOR FEOM SWITCH IN THE BLOCK)then the first fan will be on permantly, and will cool down the engine, and may get you ouT of trouble till you can get it to the dealers.
I would only use this method IF the fans are not coming on, and the temp is getting high, and, it is only a TEMP measure.
You will need to carry a set of allen keys with you to get the air box out of the way however.
It may save your engine, if the fan switch fails or, there is an airlock in the system
Hope this helps
Mr F
This just happened with mine and it cost me £6K I'm afraid.
The head gasket went over cylinder 6 and the lining then cracked mixing the oil & the water. The mayonnaise mixture it produces smells pretty horrible too - I wouldn't have posted this if you hadn't mentioned that.
I'd take it in and get it pressure tested asap for reassurance.
The first I knew about it was reaching the end of a very long motorway journey. Came to a halt at the lights and the temp shot up to 120 and a single puff of steam escaped from the engine. And that was the sum total of my warning.
Good luck with it & hope you have more luck than me. The S6 is a fantastic engine, just occasionally a little delicate!
