Exhaust system for V8

Hope you guys don’t mind me dropping in on this forum. I don’t own a TVR but I have a V8 engine so I’m hoping I won’t be drop-kicked ‘till you have read on.

Well I wanted to ask your advice and get information on exhaust systems for a P38 Range Rover with the GEMS 4.6 V8. I’ve got one of Mark Adams’ Tornado chips in with K&N air filters. I just feel that the whole thing is let down by the OE exhaust.

I have had a look around and prices go from £400 for a stainless standard Land Rover copy (cat-back) to £900 for the Full Monty sports twin exit pipes.

My 1995 range rover has a single exit exhaust – 1996 onward is where the exhaust became twin exit. It also has a pair of OE cats at the front, a mid section muffler and a rear muffler. Too many mufflers already?

I want it to stay as covert as possible but want to increase performance without too much noise.

I’ve had a read through some search results on ‘exhausts’ but I’m still none the wiser.

Can you guys give me some idea of what to do?

No point asking us, only the wedge had a decent exhaust and I think that was the Range Rover one. The exhaust on the Griff/Chim is shocking at best, but it needs to be to clear the chassis.

Indeed the wedges sound good (I am biased though) no part of it came from a RR. The noise comes from judicious use of drainpipe sized tubes and a glorious disregard for any requirement for a quantity of silencers. My configuration has one box (centre) and can not be described as "covert" in any way shape or form. If you get a system made with re-packable silencers in you can "tune" the amount of silencing to taste.

They definitely supply ACT - they were at the Autosport show with Tim on the same stand.

Things are suddenly looking up as all the places I have called listed here have cat-back systems from £375 - £425. Stainless 304 grade materials.

Tim at ACT is a middleman and can give good advice on what you need but even if you know what you need if you go through him it's cheaper

JPExhausts quoted me £420+VAT for the cat back system.

They make to order so I was wondering if those of you who have fitted one of these systems yourself, found any problem with fitting it (eg incorrect bracket position).

LongLife Exhausts were quick to deal with me - answered email within 30 mins. They tell me I can visit one of their fitting centres (Berkeley, Glos.) where they will build on the spot to my specs. 3 Hours work. Cost £370 Inc VAT & Fitting.

Both are cat-back systems using 304 grade Stainless Steel.

So unless JP is much better than Longlife then you can see where I'm going. Any experience with either - please comment.
