A friend has just had his 997 TT delivery slot confirmed ahead of mine ( ) and is expecting his car in October. Unlike me, he is looking for some signficant aesthetic and engineering mods (he doesn't particularly enjoy being overtaken).

The choice is:
- Manthey Racing
- RUF
- Techart
- Gemballa

Advice from the gurus amongst you?

He has had a Techart 996 TT which he loved - and recently put his current modified 996 TTS through the Gumball (which is OUTRAGEOUSLY fast and gave the RUF cars a run for their money):

Manthey or Ruf also......

Manthey have a track-bias and Ruf a road-bias, both are leaders in their fields.

You might have to wait a while for them to both to produce products for the 997TT though. Any upgrades on the new style variable geometry turbos will need a lot of research and testing if they are to be reliable, as the this is a whole new world of technology.

Thanks so much for the responses - it sounds like RUF is the way to go for a road car. How long does it typically take for them to release their conversions after a new car has hit the road?

Is there any problems with doing the mods after a car has been run for 6 months?

Might I nominate Parr in Crawley, excellent suspension and brake engineering .

I apologise but you guys are forgetting about RS tuning (Reinhold Scmirler - former Ruf master tech)which was my choice due to the fact they use the OEM K16's and K24's for base on their software where Ruf uses their own hybrid Turbos which makes virtually impossible to revert back to OEM for re-sale.

As reference RS Tuning is the ONLY tuning company with straight connections with Porsche AG...right now they're deveoping a new management system for Porsche motorsport and their achievements on motorsport are un matched by ANY other Porsche tuning company.

Then why are the two "UPS" Cup cars, which are representing Porsche AG in Supercup and Carrera Cup of Germany and are the only cars representing the factory, being run by Manthey?

Because they only do engines, they're not a racing team.

Why would you revert a ruf engine upgrade back to stock for resale?!

Adam hi!

I know, I know it shouldn't depreciate the car's value but over here (Portugal) believe me IT DOES! And I have the added bonus of making some of the money back (over 50% of the cost)as I asked RS Tuning to do the software on another ECU...

This was the reason I went RS Tuning route since Ruf offers a customer service and peace of mind no one else does.

What's that got to do with it?

You yourself put in the emphasis:

There are two independent companies in the world who run race teams and do race car development for Porsche - Penske and Manthey. Penske are not a "tuning" company, Manthey are.
Can you expand on how Manthey do not have "straight connections" to Porsche AG?

Also,

Can you expand on how RS Tuning's motorsport achievements are unmatched by any other Porsche tuning company, which, as I am sure you are aware, must include Manthey, Joest, Freisinger, Brumos and Kremer, amongst others.

I'm not in the least trying to diminish what RS Tuning have done. It's just that your praise of them is expressed at the expense of others and is unfair to them.

Not heard of anything being finalised yet, although there are enough people on this forum in contact with RUF in Germany that when it does we'll know about it. Although if I had the funds I wouldn't let a UK presence or current lack of one, stop me from ordering the fastest 4WD turbo they build (650+++ bhp).

Think the base price for a 530bhp 2WD RT12 is about £165k. Add on £10k for 4WD and another £40k ish for 650bhp and you get to a more acceptable spec.

If the 997 fuel tank is is similar to the 996, it maybe worth going LHD to get the larger fuel tank which would be useful on "rallys"

Surely that thread will help decide on a driver more than a tuner?
