Just read in Autoweek that BMW is extending the warranty on the M3 engine due to severe engine problems. Anyone have an engine that needed overhaul?

One of my colleagues has one and has seen postings on a US board regarding a batch of engines that went pop...I dont know which board it was tho.

There was a great video from the states,of a trackday where a 996 closes on an M3,to have the beemer deposit it's engine via the exhaust all over the porsche.
It was on a page www.donotbuyabmw.com......curiously this site doesn't seem to exist anymore..I will see if i still have the mpg on my home PC.

There was a problem centred on engines made between 10/01 and 11/01, where faulty bearings were fitted to some engines. There has been few failures in relation to the total amount of engines produced. They are mainly in the US.

Heres a link to the site.
