Whats the going rate for a ........... Single letter;single number;-TVR.........style plate i.e. what is being actually being paid for them as opposed to these copmpanies that give 'valuations'

e.g. X9 TVR

Harry the DVLA sell them for £999 including transfer fees! I've seen some people asking more than double this!

I've just got mine a few days ago looks sweet!

TVR 345X

(again not mine, just an example)

Are they worth more as they can go on just about any car?

Cheers Craig, I saw that site, they vary between 699-999, but as you say no single digit's available at present.
I think £1k is fair estimate/guide. Anyone else have a view

On the DVLA site look at past auctions for TVR numbers. There are some single digit ones there.

For normal sales i.e. not at auction from the DVLA, I reckon around £699-999 sounds about right. My plate which is similar as it is a 3 letter name was £899 a couple of years ago and similar plates go for £999 today. I would guess TVR plates would be about the same.

The result is eight pages of numbers for sale ranging from £999 to £699
which includes the transfer fee.

Yeah, but ones that are already owned will surely be more because you can't just go out & buy it?

Have a look on Ebay too - I've seen some on there before & you'll see how much people are actually bidding....

could someone tell me of any transfer costs involved as i am thinking of bidding for a plate on ebay, but am wondering if there are any hidden costs i will have to pay DVLA for transfering to my car.

Last I looked it was £80 for a straight transfer car to car - if seller has put it on retention already then he may tell you the trasfer fee is £105, this is the £80 plus the retention charge of £25, he may also have to pay an additional £25 to add you as a nominee to the retention certificate before he can transfer it - note if it is on retention he has already paid the fees to the DVLA but will probably still expect you to cover them, some auctions however state that transfer fees already paid and are included in bid price. I would check with seller first before bidding to see exactly what is needing to be paid to get it onto your car. This is based on UK plates by the way, Irish plates have higher transfer charges and take longer to process I think.
