Good roads Chepstow area?

Got to spend 3 days in a mindlessly boring marketing forum next week.
Any good roads in the area I can take the Tiv for a run?

I think there is a road connecting you to Brecon too if you go up the M50 a bit - thats pretty special too...

I am thinking early morning so the roads are clear - nice hard dash and breakfast at a greasy spoon before back to the grindstone.

You'll want to move to Wales once you've tried the roads.

The SW PHers are planning an exodus over ther soon, there roads are so good, and we've some good one down here...

Heard the road were very good, way better than around London.I have to drive miles before I get to some decent roads without cameras and numptys.

Its also a lovely drive down the Wye Valley,and also around the Forest of Dean,you never know,you might just see the odd Griff about as well

Chepstow to Usk on the B4235 is good - take the turn next to the Mitsubishi garage on the way out of Chepstow towards the Race Course. You used to be able to take the A449 from there towards Monmouth and do a 'Monaco' through the tunnel at Monmouth, but roadworks preclude that sort of malarky at the moment. Anyway if you find your way back to Monmouth (perhaps via Abergavenny ) then you can either head back down the Wye Valley on the A466 (very scenic but limited fun) or peel off as you leave Monmouth on the A4136 for some Alpine style hairpins (note 'style'). Take a right towards Coleford at the traffic light junction after a couple of miles and head back to Chepstow on the B4228 - a good varied road.
Have fun...and wave at any black Griffs...

Making me homesick now, and of course wishing I'd not sold my Chim. Had alot of fun on those roads.

Also try the road to Monmouth via Tintern [make it early to avoid the slow 'uns] - and also the road to Monmouth via Devauden and Trelleck - lots of twisties and some straight bits and you'll probably encounter a lot less less traffic.
As mentioned previously, from Monmouth take the A449 heading south and leave at Usk [watch for mobile speed vans] then follow the road from Usk back to Chepstow.

Alternatively, take any of the B roads from Chepstow and head west / north west and you'll find some great roads.

If you have time to head for the Brecons, take the 'old' road from Monmouth to Abergavenny [B4233 I think], more fun than the dual carriageway.

Chepstow to Usk is a truly awesome road and very accessible for you. From Usk you could carry on down to Caerleon which is another fine B road. You can then go and "do" the M4 tunnels at Newport, or do a quick dash back up the M4 or A48 to Chepstow. If the latter, look out for scameras.

As others have said, if you can go as far as Brecon, then pretty much any road you choose will be good!!

Another thumbs up for that road - my parents live in Abergavenny and once I've hopped over the old Severn Bridge on the way back I always take that road

A40 between Aber and Raglan is good if you like top speed runs but be careful of the bill

The Chepstow to Usk road I can also recommend,used to take my old Chimaera along there, The memories of cruising through 50 to 65mph on a sunny spring day, made the whole world seem a nicer place. Not the same experience in the Boxster so its up for sale and looking to change back, somehow nothing can match a V8.

I had no idea it was so popular! TBH I prefer it Usk to Chepstow. You get straights and sweeping curves to start off, then the corners tighen and the road undulates more as you approach Shirenewton, then past the Shirenewton turn you're into the forest with those lovely hills and hairpins.

I've just done Usk-Chepstow (twice) - sidewaysmostly, you will be sideways mostly if it's at all damp. Be very careful.
