We are taking our newly refurbed 850 Super Deluxe on the London to Brighton run this weekend.
It has a leaded head - any advice on the best fuel/addative to use?
And how do you use it!!??

Why use an additive? Leaded petrol is still available. Go to www.leadedpetrol.co.uk to find out where your nearest stockist is (but it does cost £1.40 per litre!)

I use 'Castrol Valvemaster Plus', available from Halfords and other good car spares shops.
It has a measuring chamber on the bottle so you just add the correct amount after you fill up. The difference between Castrol Valvemaster and Castrol Valvemaster Plus is that the 'Plus' also has an octane booster which is not really necessary if running standard comp ratios, but with a hotter engine running raised comp ratios, like 11:1, the octane booster is necessary. For an 850 the basic Valvemaster is probably fine.

Another vote for Valvemaster plus.
An additional point, some additives need the whole bottle tipping in to the tank, Valvemaster and V+ only need a small quantity so you don't need to keep popping into the accessory place. Warning: the valvemaster plus top has a habit of weeping slightly leaving the side of the bottle a bit sort of oily. (If you leave it lying on its side)

Thanks very much for your help - I now have some Valvemaster.
Either way, I think Avril is going to get pi**ed on this weekend on her first trip out from the bodyshop!!
Anyone reccommend a good polish.....!!!!!

The only problem I've had with additives is that on rallies, at night, the additive bottle is in the door pocket with the Lucozade. I went to take a quick swig whilst at a time control and grabbed the wrong bottle! Thank goodness for the different screw top!!!! How would I drive with a mouthful of Valvemaster Plus inside me, I wonder?

Would Valvemaster do any damage to an unleaded head? I suppose it shouldn't.

Shouldn't cause any damage, I ran my 1380 which had unleaded seats with valvemaster plus as recommend by Bill Richards due to the high compression ratio and cam.
