V8S engine cutting out
Discussion
The engine on my V8S has started cutting out. Does anybody know why this might be? Perhaps a dodgy fuel pump?
I was driving down through France on the motorway yesterday, overtaking a long line of lorries, with a car close behind me, when the engine just died. Fortunately, the engine came back to life after 4 seconds - but it was a long 4 seconds. The car then did the same thing another three times on the journey.

Lots of possible causes, too many to list them all but throttle pot would be a big suspect for a brief problem like this. Also if it happens again try to notice whether all the electrics also die (lights, indicators etc) as this would indicate the whole ignition switched circuit is dropping out, probably due to the steering column connector. It could also be a corroded or loose connector in the wiring loom, check the condition of the relays and fuses and make sure the relays are all taped into their sockets. If it was dying for several minutes I'd suspect fuel pump relay but this is a bit too short for that. Track down the ECU earth points on top of the engine by #7 cylinder and check they are clean and secure, give the rest of the engine bay wiring loom a visual check and gentle wriggle to see if any of the wires are failing.
