Buying advise.
Discussion
Hi guys.
I'm new to the forum and to TVR's. Reaching a mid-life crisis, I've always wanted a sports car and as I can now afford it, I want to have some fun this summer. The question is, what to buy.
I've gone through all the potentials - Porsche, S2000, Elise, etc - it comes down to a TVR, (just love the 'laid back grunt'), but which one.
I like the lines of the Tuscan, but the older ones that I can afford have the air vents (I think) below the steering column which hit my knees (I know the steering is adjustable, but it still gets in the way). Can this be removed?
The Griffin also excites me, but is it as good as the Tuscan? And if so, which is the one to go for (i.e.problem years, 4.0, 4.3 or 5.0 engines etc)
Also, whichever car, what extras (power steering, air-con, LSD etc) are worth having?
I'm throwing this open to you all as, from what I have read here, you are the knowledgeable ones as far as TVR's are concerned and I would appreciate your views and comments.

If you like laid back grunt, then get a V8. The Speed 6 (and 8, somewhat) are more revvy engines.
So, I'd go for a Griffith or a Chimaera. Personally, if budget allowed I'd go for a Griffith LE/SE; one of the last batch of Griff's made. They're generally pretty bullet proof, have a 5 litre engine, are new enough for components not to be wearing out and don't depreciate much.
The downside would be handling. The T series of cars are much better in that department (though lots of independants will improve the behavior of a Griff but in my experience, not to the same level as the later cars).

I would also advise to go for a late modle Grif or Chim. The Chim has been my introduction to TVRs and as so far been nothing but fun. So much torque but it is a lot more controlable than you would think. Lots of smiles per mile. The later models look nicer, handle better but dont sound as good IMO. But on performance unless youre on the track the V8 is just as quick.
Which ever you choose get used to poeple looking at you and asking you questions in the supermarket carpark. The first answer is usally yes its a TVR, the second is yes they are reliable.
