Wheel Balancing

Hello,
Right I'm going to sound like a TVR snob now
My front wheels need balancing. For such a trivial job, my first thoughts are someone like Kwik Fit ( as it's not geometry just balancing ). However, the idea of taking my pride and joy to somewhere like Kwik Fit just grates ( SNOB ).
Has anyone taken there Tiv to somewhere like Kwik Fit and if so, was it okay?
If not, where / who can I go too, in either the Camberley or Watford area?

Wheel balancing a constant PITA. Kwik Fit type places simply don’t have good enough equipment to balance wheels properly – either that or they don’t have staff properly trained to do it.
With my Tuscan I had a persistent problem with vibration at around 100. I tried several balancing places and in the end spent £££ to get them balanced properly on a hunter balancer machine via Silverstone Performance. It was worth it though as it cured the problem.
Matt at Silverstone Performance is a wheel balancing expert and really takes time to do it properly. They don’t have a hunter balancer in house, but their own machine seems good enough to cure most balancing problems. Matt’s done my Sagaris wheels a few times and has always managed to eradicate noticeable vibrations up to about 130.
With my Tuscan I had a persistent problem with vibration at around 100. I tried several balancing places and in the end spent £££ to get them balanced properly on a hunter balancer machine via Silverstone Performance. It was worth it though as it cured the problem.

ATS by me did it when new tyres went on. Vibration notable at 90 on clock - when overtaking .....
.... took back and he re did them to 1 gramme, instead of the usual 5 gramme, tolerance, apparently, and there was a big improvement. Never charged second time round. On some road surfaces a wobble sets in and doesnt go away, inc some motorway surfaces. Smoothe roads are perfect.
I wouldnt worry about where you go. It's Who does it when there, that counts ie Do they care?

I take mine to a place called Chemix which is local to me, there is also a Chemix in Stourbridge (West Midlands) and Central TVR use them to do their set ups.

And I can if I wish drive my car on the ramp myself. Some dealers take the cars they service to Kwik Fit or similar anyway.

Even Kwikit can do a good job - most balance machines balance to 5grams but if they keep their finger on the button - it balances to 1gram.
More of an issue quite frankly is whether the wheel has a buckle (gone egg shaped) - you cannot balance this out.
They can only tell this by sneaking a look under the cover of the machine while it is spinning the wheel or on spindown and lifting the cover.
Find a friendly garage and give em a few quid cash and you will find the info you need and the best job done.
