I've recently fitted Audi TT mirrors and am rather pleased with the result.
I did consider the Mini ones but think they would stick out too far, the Audi fit close to the door and still give very good vision.
Other's here have fitted MX5 and Fiesta Mk2 (I think) mirrors, but I don't know any details.
It certainly is a job worth doing, the benefit of being able to see what is around you makes driving the S even more enjoyable - and whatever replacement you go for its going to look better than those horrible floppy rabbit's ears things.

Ford Fiesta Mk2 Wing Mirrors fit a treat. Quite easy to fit. No electrics. They also cover the hole left by the old ones.

Dunno exact year, got them off ebay (£100 the pair, they are about £130 each new). I don't think there has been any change to the TT that affected the mirrors so any year should do.
What you need is the mirror assembly complete with mounting bracket and shroud. A fair bir of machining/grinding/filing is needed to the mounting bracket, but it is only die cast so it does not take long. Basically I modified it to give a flush fit agaisnt the door skin and then bolted it on with two M5 bolts, using the remains of the original S mirror mount (on the inside of the door) to maintain stiffness. The shroud needs reprofiling to match the door profile. It then fits over the whole mount to cover any signs of the old or new mount. I wired the electrics using a Vauxhall Cavalier mirror switch.
Spivvy kindly hosted some pics a few weeks ago of the finished article on another thread, you should be able to find it using Search. I have some other pics of the various stages of machining and fitting; if you are interested I can email them.
Cheers

Have fitted the New Mini mirrors on my V8s and it looks briliant for me!
I choosed them because a chrome cap was avaliable, they fit to the shape of the S and the bottom covered all the old holes of the former mirrors so that I don´t need any paintwork. But it´s not the easiest solution because you have to change a lot on the mirrors or otherwise you might have a very big hole in the door! The mount of the mirrors on a Mini´s door is not on the door surface and you have to sand and change a lot to fix it on the surface. Mine are still a little bit wonky but much better than the small chrome mirrors before. I did´t have the original CX mirrors on my S before anyway...
