The bit about the V8 sounds interesting...

The new face of TVR?

That'll be the front of the original Speed 12 grafted onto the back of a Cerbera then?

V8 sounds very good indeed.

Cammer or LS7 seem the obvious choices.

Hang on, is that saying that they are replacing the Sagaris already then?

Somehow I think any bought in engine must be posititioned lower down the range than the SP6 as the SP6 needs something to justify its existance. LS7 would be too much unless e.g. TVR want a 500bhp 200mph Cerb II to grab the headlines. This would probably be a good move due to the lack of a supercharged SP6.

Somehow I see it being the Ford engine over the Chevy, to differentiate from Marcos, even though the Chevy has advantages..

New face, more air intakes to help cooling the Autocar pic looks like.

Whatever, it will be the most eventful year for TVR for while !!

Hmmm - TVR have said they will be showing new models at the Motor Show, yet have given all the details to Autocar months early ? Speculation, methinks.

Not surprised at the talk of a bought-in engine, but I would expect that to go in a more obvious entry-level car to try to repeat the sales success of the 4L Chim. So, a 280bhp Tamora II with an American V6 or V8.

A huge V8 in the Cerbera II would also be possible, I suppose, but it would be an odd decision not to keep the Sp6 as the "high performance" engine.

The speculation should sell them a few mags tomorrow though...

Well that certainly grabbed my attention. Will be interesting to see what they roll out at Excel.

In an exclusive report in tomorrow's Autocar (May 3), the firm's managing director David Oxley reveals that the firm's owner Nikolai Smolenski wants TVR to be able to make 5000 cars per year - more than double its highest ever output. He also wants the new models to be sold in more foreign markets, such as Dubai, Malaysia and Singapore, and forthcoming emissions tests should make that possible.

I like the multiple use of the word 'want'. I want to spend a weekend in bed with Carmen Electra and Yasmin Bleeth*, but I'd place a quid on it not happening.

* The same weekend, preferably, though I'm happy to stagger them to fit in with their busy schedules.

If they want to sell 5000 cars a year wont that mean they have to get them European type approved? with crash tests and pedestrian safety and all that?

Also I can't see TVR replicating the sales success of the Chim, back in the 90s there was no competition, now every man and his dog has a high performance 2 seat convertible on the books. They are going to have to do something special to get the sales they want. But the V8 engine is a good start.

305bhp Ford V8 not too expensive and a logical entry level below any SP6 engine. The 400bhp "cammer" is rather costly though I believe compared to a GM unit.

Yes - £3,700 for 305 Bhp, complete with a perception of V8 reliability, cheaper parts, and most of the emissions development done by someone else. And without cannibalizing sales of the Sp6 range !

That could well be the "something special" that TVR needs. There is more competition in that market now, but the market is bigger than it was in the 90s too.

Go on, admit it - it's a nice thought

Also I pray that TVR drop the use of these ridiculous Americanisms like "cammer" what the hell's a cammer every engine uses a cam or two it's like "Hemmi" who cares what shape the combustion chambers are? Heaven forbid we'll be stating the size of TVRs in "cubes" next Rich...

OK, I'm lazy and used the quickest term to identify the engine I could Bit better than M-6007-T50EA* though. Anyway, I'm just speculating, many don't like the idea of a lower level TVR, but more than 300 horses and having 8 cylinders shouldn't cause tooo many complaints?
PS : How goes your 302 ci Griffith ? yee har, god bless the president and ma's apple pie

Who said anything about the 'out-scorced' V8 engine having to come from America? BMW make a good one (Morgan, Weismann....(sp)), Audi make a good one (Spyker....), and by all accounts to one used by Mercedes isn't that bad.

Put a stock 'crate' american V8 into a TVR and it'll be seen by many (including me) as a step backwards (cheap power yes, but does TVR want to be seen as cheap?). A TVR with Audi's RS4 engine, now that would be a class act...

The entry level Ford unit in a Tamora-esq car is far more plausable than a LS7 powered Cerbera- would GM seriously let anyone else have that engine when the C6 Z06 exists in presumeably the same price bracket?

Even if they didn't make it available to tvr a better version could be home built without the deficiencies of the ls7 and for similar money. They could buy engines privately and not directly from GM if needs must.

TVR want to sell cars and make this thing called profit. Helps pay the wages Being idealistic about market position etc is all well and good, but ultimately TVR is a business. Porsche do anything nowadays in the quest for a quick Deutschmark, "rebranding" a VW diesel offroader

What WOULD interest me is how much a German V8 would cost (or Lexus, I don't care, all fine engines). I honest don't think the value for money would be there compared to US offerings. I'd like to be proven wrong on this.

Totally agree, and don't know the answer to the cost difference, but it is 'value' not cost, and that was the point i was trying to make (albeit badly...). 'Audi V8' just sounds more acomplished than 'crate motor.....', the use of an American V8 engine has hardly made the new Marcos a bargin either, they still cost £50k. I do however conceed that the BMW engined Wiesmann and Morgan are £75k, and the Audi engineed Spyker is another £100k on top, but that's maybe the market TVR are aiming for with a new Cerb.
