Can this 1000hp V12 be used in an Ultima?
Discussion
Can this V12 be used in an Ultima? Has anyone used it? It looks incredible... when I get an ultima one day, it will have nothing less than a 1000hp naturally aspired v12.

They've been around since 1966. They also build racing boat engines and even aircraft engines.

basically an LS1 engine with extra 4 cylinders so quite well proven.
Great, so that means this engine will work no problem. I personally think that the "extra 4 cylenders" is a better way to go than forced induction for those seeking 700hp+. Not only that the NA power delivery is far smoother and more controllable, you wont have to worry about the heat associated with the turbo. I also think that v12 sounds better, revs higher, and has more "prestige" to it. Buttom line: v12 > turbo v8
Now all I need is that promotion lol

yeah this thing wont fit!
think its something like 36inch in length. very nice engine though and i think some of the power boat guy are running them!
if you want more cc then have a look at someof the afftermarket SBC blocks and the NEW world Products LSX motor! i have seen 472cui creat engines and the new LSX form world will go to around 454 and be save for BIG boost. also heard that one company is taking the LSX out to 481ci! and the LSX is still an ally block and can be ordeered with SBC mountings! well worth a look into!
thanks Chris!

There is that V12 Ultima out there (www.ultimav12.ca/). So it can be done. Might have to have a few things customized but it is doable. And looks like a nice engine.

no mate thats a BMW V12! not as big and no were near as powerfull, even in maca F1 form!
and its only a little bit longer than an SBC!
thanks Chris.
Of cause you could also use their new High power handling gearbox which along with being able to cope with the power also possitions the drive shafts closer to the engine block.... thus more room for the bigger engine.

First post!
I've been thinking this engine/transmission combination in an Ultima since xtrac announced the completion of this transmission earlier this year. Does anybody know if everything would line up dimensionally with respect to the rear wheels? Also, would the IR upright manifold pictured on the street hot rod engine fit under the rear bonnet? Both are absolutely beautiful.
Cheers,
MIKE

how much shorter is this box than the porsche item?
Chris.
Have no idea, closer is all I know..... anything can be made to fit if you really want it(superchargers, turbos etc) I even know of someone who moved the rear bulkhead to suit their engine.
Think I'd rather build a whole new chassis though if I was fitting this engine rather than cut and shut an Ultima one.

I think this V12 would be pointless in an Ultima...
I do however think that the IRL engines they have would be much better!

Mmmm... if you get the unmodded one it has a >10k Redline...

90 degree v12? pretty far offbalance, probably shake an ultima apart, even if you found a way to deal with the length. Better suited to a boat.
at least not much has changed in the near two years since my last post here, people are still chasing more motor. Hope you all have been keeping well.
Anyone running an ls7 with a blower yet?
Jay Esterer still have the bmw v12?
Anyone actually fit the Audi 4.2 V8?
Anyone ever wind up fitting a dog-clutch/sequential trans like an xtrac or anything?
saw an ultima running in the gumball this year, anyone know who's car? It's orange, GTR, running without the rear wing, which i always liked better as a road look, but might not be good in road race conditions! ( sorry for not searching, just thought I'd ask)

I was taken with this engine ever since I saw it on Brammo's website. I then did some simple research on it.
Definitely an engine design with a long history.
Used in powerboats as well as racing aircraft:
www.americanairracing.com/thunder.html
Has been installed in a PORSCHE 962 racer in 1991!!! Built by Dave Klym at Fabcar for Rheinhold Joest. It was even tested at Roebling Road and apparently sounded like an F1 car. Porsche got wind of the car and immediately stopped it in it's tracks.
www.mulsannescorner.com/newsjune05.html
Then it was used for a test corvette.

Finally, it has been developed by Brammo in street-legal form (with 850hp! and 1000Nm torque) for their Rogue GT supercar. The Xtrac 6012 gearbox recently developed is a perfect fit for the engine.
