rear misty window

hi folks`is there anybody out there whos tried to remove plastic window by unpicking stitching and then stitching new screen back in by hand,or is it easier to remove the whole thing and have it done on a sewing machine,im brave but not dillusioned,so any words of advice may save me any embarresment and possibly fingertips,cheers folks.

removing the whole rear hood means peeling it off the cross loop as its glued. dunno if this would damage it?? frost automotive sell a hand sewing thingy that loops the thread as you push the needle through, should work on that. think i remember from an old post that there are companies that will replace the plastic only, maybe try searching prev posts. the only other thing is plastic renovators that claim to remove misting and scratches, hope this helps

If its just misty use some autoglym super resin polish inside and out,problem sorted

yes`ive tried that plastic renovator may as well of just used dog snot, very dissapointed,perhaps i will have to try that stitching thingy,me knitting skills aint brilliant,any other advice before i visit me local wool shop muchly appreciated,thanks folks.

I used plastic renovator on mine, and it didn't come up well. Then I used stuff available on-line from hindsight, and it worked an absolute treat - literally as clear as glass. It's expensive (£35 a kit) but it worked for me...

thanks for advice,i think mines gone to far to try and renovate it,i think im going to try and sew it in myself,if i do would i need to glue the window in first then sew it or the other way round,and whats the best glue,cheers folks.

for what it's worth I did the same job on a stag years ago - worked fine but took about 5 hrs ! - tip ... fix a needle into an old soldering iron to make the holes in the window with and buy a cobblers hook etc - it doesn't speed things up but it is slightly less effort... also don't wear a belt or jeans with studs in whilst leaning over the car

You have to remove the rear hood. The screen is effectively under tension and it most probably will not lie flat without creases and ripples if you try and sew it in in-situ....

Also get some leather repair thread from your local equestrian shop (and needles) so much stronger..
