A binding problem?

Hi,

I have been trying to eliminate binding in the stearing UJs and although I am following advice to the letter ie both extreme ends ('U's)on the same plane, I still find that there is a small amount of resistance at about 3/4 s of the travel of the rack each way, and its feels sort of slightly notchy at both of these points. Travel is smooth throughout the rest of thre travel each way.

It does not distort the UJs moving through this point though. I cannot get an exactly equal horizonal at each end because just moving one spline moves it too far each way, so its the best compromise!

Am I being too picky? or do I completely remove the rods and try again for a 'notch' free movement?

Any advice would be appreciated!

just check that the uj's arent binding on theirselves, i had this problem. i marked each edge of the uj's with a marker and this showed where they were touching. spoke to andy a the factory (last year) this was a prob for a while but though it had been sorted. just worth a check and quite quick to do.

I too had this problem. My steering unis were binding on each other pretty badly. I had to remove and refine them considerably. They are in fact the only part of the kit so far that I could really say were sub standard. I actually thought at first that the steering rack was faulty.

I had a problem with my "U" joints as well - I eventually had to file the portions that were binding after trying to re-position the rack etc. There are at least two versions of the "U" joints and one version tends to exhibit this binding behaviour.
