Footwell panel

Does anyone else have a problem with the panel in the footwell (home to the fusebox and ECU) continually falling down when driving along bumpy roads?

Doesn't seem to matter how much overlap I get when tucking it back under the bottom of the dash, it just falls down again and it's getting on my nerves.

Any imaginitive solutions already employed for the same problem?

My V8S has a bootlace tied to the dashboard bracket and to something (possibly another bracket) behind the mid section of the dashboard, so that the lace goes kind of diagonally across the flap. However, at the mo this is actually holding up all the wiring behind the flap instead of the flap itself.

The flap doesn't fall down now because there's no weight on it.

My s3 has a bolt that goes through the carpit panel and then through the bit of the dash/glove box that it rests on. Then has a shiny nut thing to tighten. It is a complete pain to get the bolt to go through the holes. Took me 30mins last week to fasten it up again.

Mine has a cable tie to hold it up, ahhh yes all the mod cons in my S2!

Mine also has a nice bolt and a wing nut, 30 secs tops to refit, go on fit one.

I fitted 2 turnbuckle fasteners obtained from Woolies. It was a bit of a pain fitting them and needed the carpet removing from the back of the panel and the bottom of the dash. If I were to do it again I would make up a template to get the slots and mounting holes correct first time.

FWIW in my Chim I found that rather than "fit the bottom of the panel then push the top to fit", I got a much tighter fit if I "fit the top of the panel then jam the bottom into place".

I attached my ECU to one of the bolts on my fuse box, it takes most of the weight and stops it falling down all the time.

I put a couple of bolts down through the bottom of the dashboard, the carpet panel hooks over these and there's just about enough friction on the threads to hold it in place while I spin a couple of wingnuts on. It's still a bit of a fight to get all the wiring stuff up into the space (bigger than normal fuse/relay panel, extra ECUs etc taking up a lot of room) but once it's there, securing the carpet is a doddle. Before this I used to struggle to hold everything in place while securing the carpet with self tappers, that was no fun at all.

never had much need to open mine... buit I have found it is such a tight fity it just doesnt come open.... and before I get the barage of not trying hard enough that includes some 360 spins!!!!
