Aluminium ignition key

The ignition key for my Griffith is from Opel (in your country called Vauxhall) and looks cheap. I would prefer to have a nice ignition key made from aluminium (Leven, hint) with the shape and looks to match the Griffith. Does anyone know if there is something like that in the UK, I have tried over here but didn't find a thing.

Ofcourse I would like not the key to be made of aluminium but the part that sticks out of the ingnitionkeyhole when it's inserted. I have seen keys made for BMW motorcycles (the chopper type boxers) that had a nice aluminium body with the actual key being made of steel ofcourse. They were good looking and had a real quality feel about them, not like the plastic Vauxhal / Opel key. That's the sort of thing I'm thinking about, unfortunatly I have not been able to find one.

Ah, I see what you mean. From the look of it the plastic bit of the standard keys is moulded round the steel core so just replacing plastic with aluminium would be tricky. I guess you would need to cut the core down and make a handle which was a press fit and then bond it on. But making a fully functional aluminium handle with the alarm remote etc would take a lot of work I imagine. Any chance you could just paint the plastic to make it look aluminium, like they do with these brushed aluminium look mobile phones?

Painting the plastic would only mask the color, not the shape. It's the shape, and the material that makes it look "cheap". I can imagine that a firm like Leven would make lovely aluminium keys, unfortunatly they don't. (hint)

Thanks! I was only perusing Chim pages last night, must have missed that one.
I've just started modifying mine.
Stripped all the rubber off the key and then read the bit that said to save some. Oops.
Never mind, some epoxy resin will sort that out.
Now I've realised that the bit that says "create an opening in this half of the fob casing for the key to pass through [...] This can be achieved by drilling and filing" is one of those easy to say, hard to do type things. Oh well, at least I have a spare key whilst I put this one in the 'things to do sometime' tray.

Nooo, have you heard how many people needed new ignition barrels after using these? The titanium wears out the ignition barrel very quickly.
Besides, my 300ZX didn't come with one so I'm bitter!

I am in the process of designing an aluminium key for the S series, this will use the standard key built into an aluminium body that will match the rest of my accesories, the S key is Ford but I don't think it would be a problem to make a Vauxhall/Opel based one
