Brakes - again! Can anyone lock up the rears?

I know its a never ending subject - brakes - but I have always felt that the REARS are not as good as they could be. I have the ford brakes, and I can lock up the fronts easily. The rears are working (up on stands they come on same time as the fronts) but can anyone lock up the rears? I know you would only want this as a very last resort, (front lock up first etc) but with such large rear tyres is it possible? I have also found that my rear pads needed changing BEFORE the fronts, so they are working. Just think the pad size on the ford rear brakes is too small to really do a good enough job. Any thougts? I have the two marter clys the same size. No brake bias value fitted, this was my next thought/job to try.....

That's rather worrying isn't it? Without a bias valve to compensate for weight transfer under braking, the brakes can be balanced under light or heavy braking but not both.

fit a brake bias bar so you can adjust the pedal pressure to each master cylinder.

Another option is to lengthen the push rod on the rear brake master cylinder but make sure it still has free play in and only do a couple of turns at a time.

Always have the front brakes locking before the rears otherwise you may find yourself doing a very rapid 180 degree turn (brake bias adjustment is very useful especially in the wet when you need to put more braking to the front)
