Alternator connector - what DOES it do ?

On a Griff. Whilst adjusting the alternator belt at the weekend I noticed that one of the connectors at the back was not on the spade end. It's the one that connects the component at the bottom of the alternator - the shortest thing wire on the back of the unit. It's not changed anything. Anyone know what it does, I'm curious ?

Just a guess but is it some sort of suppressor to stop radio interference?
